http://www.gainesvilletimes.com/section/225/article/102732/I live in a very Repub arera of Geogia (are there any areas that aren't?) and there was an oped the other day trying to explain that people hate the ACA because it was passed by a partisan vote. If my ltte can at least make one or two people THINK, then I'll be happy.

(54,770 posts)much agreement. Keep us informed of responses. Maybe we'll be surprised. Although, I imagine that even if ACA saves someone's life there, they will still hate it because it's attributed to Obama.

(1,850 posts)You refer to "Republican" amendments, but the bill was not amended to entice Republicans to vote for it; that wasn't going to happen EVER, and everyone knew it. The amendments were to make the ACA palatable for the conserva-Dems, like Landrieu and Stupak, whose votes were needed to pass the bill. Can't remember what Landrieu wanted, but Stupak wanted some abortion exceptions, and was willing to vote with the Republicans if he didn't get what he wanted. Many of the conserva-Dems voted to pass the bill, and then either lost re-election or decided to retire rather than face their constituents.

(45,806 posts)were from the Pubs, and if I can convince some Georgians that the law is more acceptable to them because some Pubs had some input, them I'm going for it.
I was actually surprised when I read the original oped that said "I realize we don't likt the ACA BECAUSE it was passed by a totally partisan vote". Up until then, I thought they all hated it because it was Obama's idea (even though it was originally a Heritage Foundation idea) and they hate him.
I'm just trying to get at lease some people to look at the advantages in that law for them and not just dismiss it out of hand.
