President Obama Lists What’s Not Working in Washington, The president also addressed torture

Obama Lists What’s Not Working in Washington, the World, The president also addressed post-9/11 America, saying "we tortured some folks."

In a last-minute press conference at the White House Friday, President Obama hit congressional Republicans for not passing an emergency border funding bill and for, as he sees it, keeping Congress unproductive.

"We all agree that there's a problem that needs to be solved in a portion of our southern border, and we even agree on most of the solutions," Obama said. "Instead of working together...House Republicans, as we speak, are trying to pass the most extreme and unworkable versions of a bill that they already know is going nowhere."

(snip)
On the border, Obama said, "I'm going to have to act alone."

Obama also addressed post-9/11 America, in talking about the CIA. "We tortured some folks," he said. "We did some things that were contrary to our values. I understand why it happened. I think it's important when we look back to recall how afraid people were after the Twin Towers fell, and the Pentagon had been hit, and a plane in Pennsylvania had fallen and people did not know whether more attacks were imminent and there was enormous pressure on our law enforcement and our national security teams to try to deal with this."

people like @amandacarpenter spent 8 years defending torture, get upset when someone calls it what it is.

But he still seem committed to letting the perpetrators skate.

If his opponents come at him with something serious, he has subpoenas in his back pocket for the Bush-Cheney gang.

. . . it makes me sick to my stomach.

As if concern over 9-11 excuses the anti-constitutional power grab of the Bushites. Btw, we didn't need Pres. Obama to tell us people were tortured. That's been clear for years. We need someone held accountable for those tortures and renditions. *Anyone* would be a start.

What about his CIA director's attempts to intimidate and obstruct Senate staffers investigating and preparing that report he's dissembling about? Does he 'understand' why that happened?

Let's talk a little more about why the CIA was 'spying' on the Senate Intelligence Committee

Please. The US government wanted to torture people, so it did.

So, torture is "contrary to our values" but rationalizing the torture (we wuz afraid!) and allowing the guilty to go free is in keeping with our values?
