http://blog.sfgate.com/techchron/2014/08/01/seniors-and-people-with-disabilities-block-tech-buses/Now seniors and people with disabilities are taking issue with the buses themselves.
On Friday morning, protesters from groups including Senior and Disability Action, the Gray Panthers and Eviction Free San Francisco blocked two tech shuttle buses stopping at 24th and Valencia streets en route to the Valley....
Mira Ingram, a MUNI rider who is wheelchair-bound due to a combination of neuropathy, arthritis and diabetes, said she often misses the bus because of tech shuttles. The 45-year-old said she canceled a regular morning doctors appointment because she missed her bus so frequently due to private shuttles. The private buses, she said, block MUNI drivers from getting close enough to the curb to operate the bus wheelchair lifts.
I know her!!! And the head of Senior and Disability Action! (Today is her birthday!)

(1,429 posts)San Francisco has a policy to encourage (require) the use of public transportation. You are right, how many more cars would be blocking the roads without this bus service.

(78,249 posts)which is about 40 miles south of SF. San Jose is actually larger than SF, with 980,000 people to around 800,000. Although, having lived here for close to five years, I can't really say that I blame them.

(21,157 posts)We're a city of different cultures, classes, minorities , artists, middle class families, business people and the cities notorius eclectic/eccentric culture. The google bus people represent those who are the reason our rents are raised or we're evicted from our longtime apartment, bidding up housing prices driving out the people who make San Francisco what Made San Francisco uniquely the city.
I don't like the google buses.

(22,691 posts)Is there not some property to be sold or rented to these tech tanks that think they are buses? Tax them for the use of the public's property.
And thanks for your post, KamaAina.

(78,249 posts)Caltrain is a commuter railroad run jointly by SF, San Mateo (the Peninsula, in between the two) and Santa Clara ($iliValley) counties. Alas, most of the large worksites down here are nowhere near the stations. "Calbus" would be available to everyone (like people who had interviews, and people working at startups), not just those who work at one of the big tech cos. like Google.
