Animal cruelty.
Child cruelty.
They go to my auto delete.
I just can't take them anymore.

(14,733 posts)It's incredibly depressing to see the monsters that walk among us, taking sadistic glee in harming or killing the defenseless.

(8,020 posts)... there was a thing going around FB and the web about some people who were going to give their old dog a perfect day before they had to send him across the rainbow bridge due to age and illness.
I got as far as the first sentence in the description of the situation. Tears in my eyes. Couldn't read about it or watch the video.
I was a Marine, fercrissakes! I did shit to people I'm not proud of, but I have learned to live with those things.
Old dogs...? Dogs...? Pets...?
I'm an old softie.
My thanks to you for your service; my heart goes out to you.

(11,833 posts)I've rarely loved a human the way I've loved my dog Angelina, and the formerly starving horse, Root Beer, that I work with at a horse shelter. They are both just so special to me. I guess some haven't felt that love and kindness in the exact same way, but I know many have. Thank you for your service. Have a good weekend.

(16,184 posts)I've got a low enough opinion of people who treat animals like that, and I don't need to make my blood boil any more than it already does.
I'm with you.

(6,799 posts)I pass them by, the headline is enough. If I am foolish enough to open one the image stays with me all day. I just try to remember that we cannot save all of them. When I get home, I look at my furry guys and know that at least three dogs and three cats are happy, healthy and loved.

(49,212 posts)Do what you can in your own community, and don't get so hurt by what you read that you can't function.
lovemydog
(11,833 posts)Self care. That's important. It enables me to function and I can't help others if I can't function. The horse shelter where I work has photos on its web page of the 'before' photos. I.e., the horses when they arrive to our place. I can't look at them. I prefer the 'after' photos. Healthy, happy horses. Have a good weekend!

(15,805 posts)and I'll add war porn to the list. Some people are enablers, perhaps attracted to those who engage in such evils, they take perverse delight in constantly posting their rogue's gallery of horrors if for nothing more than the shock value.

(8,175 posts)I usually do open the animal rescue posts because they have a good ending. The one about the kitten today had me crying for ten minutes after seeing that video. I will never do that to myself again. That was just too damned painful. And there was no good ending to it, so why the hell post it? Just to make people feel bad? I'm sorry, but that really pissed me off.

(32,086 posts)And, like Triana said, it's about compassion. Courage has nothing to do with it. Count me among those who just hit that little box with the "X" in it when we see posts like that. I honestly don't understand why people insist on posting those stories. It's not like we don't know that kind of thing goes on all the time, and it sure as hell isn't going to stop it.

(1,805 posts)This is kinda OT, but Amazon has a program where a percentage of everything you spend goes to the charity of your choice - even your kid's school if you want. But I have it set in my toolbar to send whatever to the ASPCA. I use Amazon a LOT, mainly since I'm pretty much homebound due to health crap. Check it out. I started with Doctors Without Borders who I greatly admire, but those damn commercials on TV got to me. My husband and I have to change the channel when they come on.

(12,392 posts)Some people seem to take a certain pleasure in headlining their posts with 'Child Tortured and Burned' or 'Puppy strangled...' etc. etc.
I really wish there was a separate forum where these folks brimming with bloody and heart wrenching news could go to spill their latest gruesome discoveries.
I'm not a Barbara Bush who doesn't want to waste her beautiful mind on the horrors of life, but I am a person who suffers greatly with each and every story, and at times these accounts are extremely debilitating. I don't avoid reality but I beg you, consider the readers who suffer from these ongoing horror stories.
Could you please preface your bloody tale with a warning?
