The rally had the atmosphere of an outdoor rock festival, as participants threw beach balls high in the air and music blasted from large speakers set up along the parking lot.
Workers carried signs with blown-up photographs of Arthur T. Demoulas, while loyal shoppers carried signs saying, "We are the customers. We quit."

(82 posts)Based on the limited number of pictures at the Daily Mail the protesters seem overwhelming white. As I do not living in the area perhaps it is just the demographics there. I have a habit of looking for diversity so it was simply something that I noticed.
There are many Spanish workers at MB
Don't get me wrong... I support the protesters but I was surprised how few African Americans were in the photos.

(59,440 posts)It's beginning to hurt the economy. Vendors are being affected, small businesses are being hurt. Low income people who have no where else to shop, like those in Haverhill that only have Market Baskets--no other supermarkets, are being hurt. Meanwhile, scab drivers are making $1000 a truckload to deliver product from the warehouse--more than the permanent workers were making.
There have been local tv interviews with workers who were either fired or walked off the job. They're standing strong and, though Artie T has not made any comments or contacted any of the workers, they know he is working furiously to fix this. Someone referred to him today as a humanitarian. Apparently, he paid for a worker's funeral a few years ago. I really hope he comes back.
