ALEC Goes Local

The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is expanding its reach beyond the states to local governments. ALEC is expanding. The group that’s long been known for promoting conservative legislation in states is now moving into local government.

It’s a smart step for ALEC. (Its formal name is the American Legislative Exchange Council.) There’s been an explosion of conservative think-tankery in states over the past decade, with many capitals and big cities now hosting groups that float ideas, which are then promoted heavily by corporate interests. more at site

Now we have lobbyist invading local governing meetings to override constituent's democratic concerns for corporate concerns. Maybe a Charter School lobbyist promises an appointment to its Board of Trustees, if the community could be persuaded to turn over its public education schooling to corporate investors. Lobbyist have already gotten the Governor and State Legislature to make a law setting it up, several years before.
