Along with their support of the ACA at the state level, that sort of thing puts Kentucky in a much better light than many of the southern states. Its the sort of thing real leaders do.

This is a cool thing he did, but why (as university president) doesn't he have the authority to change the pay rates himself?

or something like a Board of Directors. Not sure of all the details. Maybe they're appointed by the Governor & the annual funding is determined by State Law.

"Some had been making as little as $7.25, the current federal minimum." So he brought the wages of all of them to $10.25, but didn't necessarily raise all of their wages by $3.00 per hr.

I would not count on this kind of voluntary action spreading like wild fire. Minimum wage workers need a mandated raise.

is difficult to do only with legislation -- it will take a change in the social climate as well. Good examples like Pres. Burse are a factor in establishing a new climate.

Not bad in comparison to someone like the Exxon head for instance (230 times the lowest worker in 2011), but my belief in fairness thinks no head of any organization should be paid more than 7 times what a base employee makes. If they want a higher wage, they have to pay a higher wage to the lowest echelon in the organization.
