Be careful what you ask for.. the republican leadership wants him to act on his own.. I wonder if they will again try and sue him, or impeach him.. I do not think the President gives a rats backside at this point.. he has tried so hard with them and only gotten rebuffed..
Oh and I am sure you will see a gazillion threads on how unpopular the President is.. take that one to the bank.

"By the end of the summer, President Barack Obama will make what some activists and legal experts say could be the "boldest move" of his presidency as he prepares to move without Congress on immigration reform.
The coming executive actions to change immigration policy could become the defining moment in a second term marred by congressional gridlock. A mid fierce debate over the crisis along the U.S.-Mexico border they also could set up a potential political firestorm just weeks before the crucial midterm elections. Perhaps most importantly, Obama's coming executive actions could also test the limits of presidential power.
"Depending on how far they go, yes," David Martin, a professor at the University of Virginia School of Law who specializes in immigration law, told Business Insider. "It could be a significant challenge to the scope of presidential power."

(25,261 posts)After Congress comes back from their vacation lying to their constituencies to get their vote - I also believe the President will make some bold moves on immigration, climate control and perhaps even on some infrastructure issues - and will leave little time for the Repubs to recoil and respond before the Nov 2014 elections.
I believe his popularity will rebound and that will aid in getting people to the polls to also make some bold moves and throw the Repubs out.

(22,877 posts)Whether he is popular or not.. does not concern me at the juncture.. Democrats, Indys etc will do what they need to do in their particular district.. there is no re-election for the President.. so he will do his best to clean up the mess he was left with.. no matter who gets the office.. unlike what the republicans have been about for the last 6 years.. muddying and stalling and refusing to work with him on any level.. to try and get the Presidency back.. this President has been about putting the country back on even ground.. we were so deep in the muck.. I am very proud of what he has been able to to.. the Republicans have dug their own ditches by going tea party.. so GOTV for sure

The report was posted on Dec. 5, 2005. According to author, Doug Thompson, unnamed Republican leaders complained to Bush during a White House meeting about "onerous" portions of the USA Patriot Act, prompting the following:
Capitol Hill Blue: I dont give a goddamn, Bush retorted. Im the President and the Commander-in-Chief. Do it my way.
Mr. President, one aide in the meeting said. There is a valid case that the provisions in this law undermine the Constitution.
Stop throwing the Constitution in my face, Bush screamed back. Its just a goddamned piece of paper!

No better time to point out how little congress is doing, and put their backs against he wall on some important issues that most of the public agrees with, than when they are less than 30 days away from reelection.
