I remember back in the 2000's when the media was going on about "latchkey kids" which are kids who come home to an empty house and have their own key to let themselves in. You had all these anchors with six or seven figure incomes being appalled that the working poor weren't paying for a sitter for the few hours between when they got off from school and the first parent got home from work. They acted like those parents were guilty of child endangerment and should have their kids taken away.

That topic vanished fast when it was discovered that it was more common than it was first believed.

Thanks for that image, Spitfire!

I remember that tournament and Wolfie did so badly that they made an exception and let him participate in Final Jeopardy anyway. He thought that King David and Jesus were both born in Jerusalem and I howled like a maniac when he missed that one. I'd venture to say that even someone with little to no religious training have heard about oh little town of Bethlehem.

Andy was remarkable all the way thru to the end in that competition.

And he is in charge of the maps at CNN.

On the bright side, CNN news is such a loser in the news market, that they now fill much of their prime time early and mid evening hours with Anthony Bourdain.
Bourdain is one of the few really and truly independent investigative reporters on TV.

Sure you get to watch a lot of meals that are eaten, and discussions with famous foreign chefs, but his report on the Israeli bombing of Beirut back during George W's reign was one of the more openly informative things I have ever seen on TV. I was amazed that the Travel or Food network actually ran the hour long program.

"...President Bush has embarked on a widely heralded visit to Africa, but early in his presidency he seemed to have little interest in the region.

An appearance in Göteborg, Sweden, on June 14, 2001, did little to change that impression. “Africa is a nation that suffers from incredible disease,” he said — referring to Africa as a country, instead of a continent. ..."

The Vice President had one of his moments yesterday (to me it's part of Biden's personality and makes him charming and endearing).

“There is no reason the nation of African cannot, and should not, join the ranks of the world’s most prosperous nations,” Biden told leaders at the U.S.-African Business Forum in Washington" on Tuesday.
