MI Christian’s antigay rant caught on video: ‘F*cking f*ggot — you should be put to death!’

By David Ferguson
Thursday, August 7, 2014 8:53 EDT

A video recorded by a gay man in Delta Township, Michigan shows one man’s violent, antigay rant, and reveals the kind of religiously motivated harassment many LGBT people face every day of their lives.

WILX.com reported that on Tuesday evening, Isaiah Tweedie and his friends were leaving a restaurant when fellow patron Victor Sadet followed them outside and launched a fusillade of taunts and verbal abuse at the group and at Tweedie in particular.

Tweedie took out his camera phone and began to film.

“Say it, again,” he said to Sadet.

“I said, ‘fucking faggot.’ You want a picture? Take a picture,” said Sadet, advancing on the group.

The problem in this instance is exacerbated by the fact that there isn't just a single counterexample to dismiss as "no true Christian," but that the vast majority of overt homophobia in this country is expressed by Christians and defined by them as part of their religious belief.

82. I'm not a Christian; I simply believe in love.
Thu Aug 7, 2014, 05:41 PM
Aug 2014

I read many of the books, and Judeo-Christian western culture (and the other book religion based cultures) and their customs and traditions and all the dogma and the whole church/temple/mosque thing is just not who I am. For me, most of those things are obstructive mediators that just obscures my connection to all creation.

I once asked one of my metaphysics teachers if she was a Christian...she answered, "I'm trying to be". I thought that was interesting; she had done a whole lot of thinking about abstract concepts and spiritual disciplines.

Anyway, I discovered that for me, what I was trying to find out really couldn't be taught with words; I had to go out and live to understand what I was even looking for. When the *lights* came on for me is when I found that I clearly don't know anything, and figured the simplest and least harmful way to approach life was to just try to do everything from a place of love, because it just feels like the best way to be for me. I reckon that's kind of what Christ said before all the priests and scribes and politicians and other charlatans decided they had to add their "corrections" to the simple idea, and then went out and based material religions on them.

But I still find it prudent to use my senses to perceive the difference between a bullsnake and a rattler.

Warm, sunny day, nature calls, time to play!

The man in the video, by contrast, directly threatened the video maker. This entails a number of potential crimes, including assault. I don't know if Michigan has a hate crimes law, but loudly shouting "Fucking Faggot" at someone seems to apply.

86. I'm hateful? I think your deity is hateful. Here is your good old Bronze Age deity's "own words"
Thu Aug 7, 2014, 09:07 PM
Aug 2014

"But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

It always amazes me how many times this God orders the killing of innocent people even after the Ten Commandments said “Thou shall not kill”. For example, God kills 70,000 innocent people because David ordered a census of the people (1 Chronicles 21). God also orders the destruction of 60 cities so that the Israelites can live there. He orders the killing of all the men, women, and children of each city, and the looting of all of value (Deuteronomy 3). He orders another attack and the killing of “all the living creatures of the city: men and women, young, and old, as well as oxen sheep, and asses” (Joshua 6). In Judges 21, He orders the murder of all the people of Jabesh-gilead, except for the virgin girls who were taken to be forcibly raped and married. When they wanted more virgins, God told them to hide alongside the road and when they saw a girl they liked, kidnap her and forcibly rape her and make her your wife! Just about every other page in the Old Testament has God killing somebody! In 2 Kings 10:18-27, God orders the murder of all the worshipers of a different god in their very own church! In total God kills 371,186 people directly and orders another 1,862,265 people murdered.

The God of the Bible also allows slavery, including selling your own daughter as a sex slave (Exodus 21:1-11), child abuse (Judges 11:29-40 and Isaiah 13:16), and bashing babies against rocks (Hosea 13:16 & Psalms 137 ).

This type of criminal behavior should shock any moral person. Murder, rape, pillage, plunder, slavery, and child abuse can not be justified by saying that some god says it’s OK. If more people would actually sit down and read the Bible there would be a lot more atheists like myself.

Jesus also promoted the idea that all men should castrate themselves to go to heaven: "For there are eunuchs, that were so born from their mother's womb: and there are eunuchs, that were made eunuchs by men: and there are eunuchs, that made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven's sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it." (Matthew 19:12 ASV) I don't know why anyone would follow the teachings of someone who literally tells all men to cut off their privates.

The God of the Bible also was a big fan of ritual human sacrifice and animal sacrifice. The most disturbing aspect of Yahweh’s humanoid personality, however, is his blood-lust. The smell of burning flesh is a ‘sweet savour unto the lord’ – so sweet, in fact, that the phrase appears in the Old Testament no fewer than twenty-three times. The butchery demanded by god is truly monumental. Believers are required to sacrifice two lambs day-by-day continuously – and that’s just for starters! Just as well Yahweh had several thousand priests to help him trough through the banquet!

Livestock bears the brunt of god’s appetite but humans could so easily get the chop from the big guy. God kills Uzzah for simply steadying the tumbling Ark (1Chronicles 13.9,10). Poor Onan was zapped for using the withdrawal method of birth control (Genesis 38.10). But such isolated vindictiveness palls in comparison with the mass killings of the Lord. When the autocratic Moses faces a rebellion led by Korah, God uses an earthquake and fire to consume two hundred and fifty rebels. When indignant sympathizers protest at the injustice, God wipes out another fourteen thousand seven hundred with a plague (Numbers 16). What a guy!

Oh, and let's not forget how he ordered Abraham to kill his own son. What a sicko! That God of the Bible. He gets off on death and destruction. Who would worship such an asshole?

to me the big issue is that we as a society in the modern age continue to be at the mercy of this silly of fiction book from a primitive people. It is still having an impact on our social policies, laws, and legislation. It's absolutely ludicrous. It's exactly the same as if we had to run things according to stories about Zeus, Thor, or Isis. That is partially why so many of us on DU are hostile to religion. Make believe trumps reason, with devastating consequences for U.S. society (not to mention other societies around the globe -- see the Iraq/Isis mess for just one example).

Also, God is a figment of human imagination so I'm sure the omnipotent, invisible, angry-enough-to-slaughter-millions-yet-oh-so-loving supernatural being in the sky will be just fine (oh, of course it's a man, probably a white guy with a long white beard, amIright?).

The hater was acting and talking violently, full of hate.

The innocent victim said...I will pray for you.

Which one acted more Christ-like?

Yeah..

I'm sure the hater will go back to his Randian/bagger/republican church and thank God on his knees that he ain't like those dirty *** sinners.

And he will get his reward someday as well.

Most Christian homophobes hand pick Leviticus to hurl at us, while ignoring the rest of that book. What was funny was before I came out, my boss took my aunt to a Red Lobster and ended up making rude anti-gay comments about a waiter there, all the while talking about God. Assholes like that are a dime a dozen. I like the liberal Christians who do not hate, but where I live, they are very very rare. Those Christian right wing hater types? They are a dime a dozen here in the Bible Belt.

Those who harp on Leviticus seem to forget that in order to be a Christian you are living under a new covenant.... meaning that if they want to live by the laws of the old covenant (old testament) then they should start calling themselves orthodox Jews.

Those who pick and choose from the bible really get on my nerves. They like to pick parts that won't impact them, pick parts which to use as a hammer on someone else, and completely skip over things that would pull them out of their own comfort zones.

Christianity was NEVER meant to be used as a weapon. NOT EVER! However some feel that they have a "moral high ground" with which to feel superior. As a christian I am seriously offended by those who act that way.

To say there are no bad ones is to stick one's fingers in one's ears and say "la-la-la, I can't hear you" but the same is true saying there are no good ones. Dr. King, Bishop Tutu come immediately to mind.

On a recent trip to Boston I had a very enjoyable lunch with a literary colleague I'd never met before who is a-- gasp! Baptist minister. A phrase that normally sends chills down my Southern gay spine, but up north they are just not the same thing at all.

Fred Phelps Was Right: the Bible teaches hate. That's not all it teaches, but it does teach that. Repeatedly.

Today's Christian hates "love your neighbor as you love yourself" and revels in "kill your neighbor if he's different than you."

His hyper masculinity, I think he was open carrying, is likely a cover up for his fear of being inadequate.

I consider latent homosexuality, when I think about these bruts. They haven't got a clue about a hidden part of themselves that has long ago been forced into their unconscious. When they see out and proud it strikes a chord somewhere. They want to kill that part of themselves. Why wouldn't they want to kill someone who reminds them it exists.

Otherwise what hooks them to act all crazy like that. It's effing none of his business.

Thu Aug 7, 2014, 02:11 PM

Seems so antithetical to what women are about. They are our sisters to me. But then again I'm drawn to gay men.

I think hate must be brainwashed into them by powerful authority figures.

It helps to have had one of the dearest, coolest, most fearless, gay guy friends, evah! The summer I graduated high school we met her. So fun. So One Of The GIRLS.

That infuriates me, too. If someone attacks physically or verbally often it equates to beating up a woman. It is a hate crime.

And tough guy in the video is committing assault when he is issuing threats of violence.

Now look at the last brain image in the panel. This takes the brain activity of someone thinking of their own opinion, and subtracts that from the brain activity of that same person thinking of god's opinions. And guess what? They are exactly the same.

'What would jesus do?' It turns out that what Jesus would do is exactly what 'I' would do - at least in so far as figuring out what Jesus's opinions are. Thinking about God's opinions and thinking about your own opinions uses an identical thought process.

Certainly having a questionable Christian threatening to pray of one is better than having that questionable Christian implying a death threat. Very credible job of disarmament, indeed.

Oh, and the last name "Sadet" - that's just one letter off from Sadat, who was, as we know, a follower of - ahem - Islam. Highly suspicious.

is all that is being taught in many so-called "christian" churches now a days. They cherry pick the Bible to reinforce their hate.

Same thing was done during slavery times in America. The infamous home grown terrorist group KKK has always claimed to be a christian organization even as they were blowing up a christian church Sunday school and murdering 3 little innocent black girls.

Jesus said I am the light of the world. You see any light in that haters face?

I see the great black maw of Hell opening wide and swallowing him up whole.
