And it's to a tiny AM signal that they don't even own! WPGB 104.7 dumped talk for country music, and WJAS 1320 recycles the talk leftovers. Another nail in the coffin of Teabilly Talk!

(2,656 posts)From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WPGB :
WPGB 104.7 carried the entire lineup of RW pundits: Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity. It even carried Savage until he bowed out of the mix a few years ago. Quinn was a locally brewed RW personality who has some national recognition. Looking back, last year's parting of ways between him and station may have been because this recent format change has been contemplated for some time.
As a side note, it is too bad that WJAS radio's shift to the talk format has placed two Pittsburgh broadcast legends, Bill Cardille and Jack Bogut, off the airwaves. http://www.post-gazette.com/local/2014/08/07/Longtime-radio-hosts-say-farewell/stories/201408060181 .
The Pittsburgh radio market is interesting in that there are no other major cities which overlap it. A generous choice of country music broadcasting prevails, which I attribute to a strong conservative segment of the populace. President Obama recognized this fact when he commented that many in Ohio and Pennsylvania cling to guns and religion.
It is great that the Pittsburgh radio market no longer has a strong signal promoting the RW agenda.

(32,723 posts)Limbaugh sold his show by offering it for free at the beginning.
Station managers were told here was a show that filled three hours with a built in audience for free.
After the show spread, Limbaugh claimed it was because America wanted it.
A tiny LOUD minority did.
At one point Station Managers were afraid to drop the show because they feared that they could actually get SHOT by Limbaugh's angry, gun toting, right-wing fanatical Dittoheads.
Does ANYBODY listen to him anymore? The guy went from acting like Clinton was an evil bastard to Bush was a Great Liberator to Obama is an evil bastard.

(9,090 posts)monopolistic very loud think tank coordinated voice
the local blowhard here, reaching tens of thousands driving home, is going to spend an hour attacking dems and obama and refugee children on the border, and then in the next hour motherfucking think tank professional cimate denier marita noon and an author of a new denial book will have an hour talking with one of the dumbest shitwads on radio. and they do it with a NM Lobos sticker on their bullhorn.
that's happening all over the country from 1200 coordinated stations and it's been destroying US democracy and kicking liberal ass for 25 years.

(9,090 posts)good idea tho, but that simple pyramid took months of free time all together, from finding the schools much earlier, then more recently getting their logos, then putting it all together. it's a bit of a problem. bartcop would have used a pimple.
but i did just listen to an hour of global warming denial on the local limbaugh station that is endorsed by the NM lobos and reaches tens on thousands driving home. the local moron had two think tank (inc the heartland institute) supplied professional deniers and energy 'experts'. they were running out of time but i somehow got through and at the very end i got on and said " hi folks, i was just thinking that in about ten or maybe five years we'll look back on your efforts to deny global warming action and think of it as treasonous"
i think i'll have to wait another year before they let me slip through again.

(771 posts)Near end of 350 million contract - how is he still worth that much?
Did he not spend any of it?
350 million. That is fat money. I would have been surprised of it were 35 million. The hell. Certainly these numbers are embellished.

(24,378 posts)Ever been fired before? If so, did you give your salary back?
That page you linked is his net worth. It also shows his earnings for 2013 ($66 Mil)
THAT may be clawed back - at least what he has made so far this year - if the terms of his contract stipulate such a thing.
I think he is a carbuncle on the American landscape, but the money he has been paid in the past is his to do with as he pleases. He could never speak another word in public (oh please, oh please) and be just fine for the rest of his life.
However, unless he is a complete moron, without an income that large the first thing to go is the jet.

(32,056 posts)Already, stations in Pittsfield, NY and Brawley, CA dropped the show.
And Pittsburgh joins San Francisco and Los Angeles where third-string weak signal stations are the local Rush affiliates. Earlier this year Rush moved from LA's 50 kW blowtorch KFI to a directional signal station in KEIB 1150 (formerly KTLK). And in Pitt, Rush moved from 50 kW blowtorch KDKA in 2004 to the WPGB station. Right here when I'm at in SF, Rush had been initially on a 50 kW SPORTS station (KNBR) then moved to conservative talk powerhouse KSFO (only a 5 kW signal though) in 2000. Moved again in 2012 to a 10 kW AM station then in 2014 to a directional signal 5 kW station.

(13,227 posts)5kw on the 560 frequency can cover a heavy amount of ground. Even 500 watts on that signal can go a long way. AM is funny in that lower frequencies can cover more area at lower power while stations higher up on the dial need way more power to get anywhere. KSFO covers the entire bay area and thwn some.
That said, Rush's current affiliate has a very mid-range signal at best. Not even close to KNBR, KGO, etc. It's CC'S throwaway signal in the market, and it probably got better ratings (and more desirable demographics) when it ran liberal talk.
