Shit. Another Florida murder by gun with not arrest (Stand your ground)

Taco Bell Shooting Victim was Holding Leash, Not Weapon
Victim's sister calling for shooter's arrest

<snip>

About 7:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man and his girlfriend ordered food at the Taco Bell drive-thru and were told to pull up while their order was prepared.

At the same time, Adkins stepped around a corner into the path of the vehicle and angry words were exchanged between he and the driver.

They got into an altercation and Adkins was shot once by the driver. He died at the scene.

The driver, a 22-year-old black male, called police but has not been arrested.

<snip>

so out of control.

Wow.

“He swung his fist towards the driver window, and at some point the driver shot him,” says Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson. “

That must have taken some doing.

We're the nations whipping boy for crazy, even though I've seen what happens in some of these other states and they are every bit as crazy as us Floridians.

I doubt it. The shooter in this case is black and they must reflexively take the opposite side.

but this guy needs to be arrested for murder and Florida's SYG law needs to be repealed. This sure as fuck doesn't look like the shooter was in imminent fear for his life. The guy was walking his dog.

they are both states that are giving into insanity. This case is just as sad as the Trayvon Martin case. The victim was mentally challenged and was just out walking his dog.

These laws could easily lead to chaos. Vengeance instead of law and order. What a mess. Again proof that too many Republicans can't think beyond immediate gratification.

He hit me so I am going to kill him right now. That is what this law leads to. Makes no difference what state it is in or what races are involved, it's simply stupid and will make our society less safe.

I remember in high school and college I would see fights. Fist fights and it wasn't unusual. Now people just pull out guns.

Scary!

15. The problem is that a person can be killed with a gun without having

an opportunity to run or defend him-or herself.

A person with a gun has overwhelming power. It is very clear that if a person who is large kills a smaller or weaker person with his fists and feet, a murder has been committed. In that situation, it is also very clear who has committed the murder.

Sometimes in the case of assault or an exchange of body blows by the hands and feet, it can be difficult to differentiate the attacker from the attacked. In fact, sometimes, both may be at fault.

But when a gun is involved and the shooter claims that the other person started the fight, then it is certain that one brutally killed the other -- self-defense may justify the killing, but that is an issue a jury must decide.

A person with a gun has such an overpowering ability to kill, such an advantage when it comes to inflicting deadly injury, that guns have to be condemned more readily than fists and feet.

they are in many states, they are there for a reason, there have been no moves to repeal and there won't be (there may be some revision), all of these fears have been voiced in the past and have never materialized (usually by advocates of gun control).

What exactly is this thread about or the Trayvon Martin case? These fears have been realized and are being realized at an ever increasing rate.. I remember a case from Alaska a couple of years ago where a Preacher heard a noise at three in the morning and he grabbed his gun and shot and killed two children that were running away from the area..He walked without charges...

no more likely than any of the other hundreds of limitations on prosecutors which are designed to keep the innocent out of jail..there are many such hurtles for prosecutors which result in a fraction of cases of people who are guilty being not charged or not convicted...the idea is that in keeping the innocent from being convicted a few guilty will go free, a trade off I'm comfortable with given the alternative.

Justifiable homicide numbers have increased because many innocent victims aren't charged with a crime after killing an attacker. Previously almost certainly if you killed an attacker, you would be charged with some crime, many of those resulted in plea bargans by the shooter rather than risk lengthy prison sentences for self defense.
