I watched it sail across the sky most of the night because I couldn't sleep. Fast-moving typhoon clouds of all kinds, from wispy white scarves to dark gray blankets raced beneath that bright moon, covering and revealing in a nocturnal strip tease. The strong cool wind tossed around the bamboo blinds outside my mother-in-law's kitchen so violently that the sensor safety light kept going on, as if the wind were a burglar. Everyone in the house was asleep, the town dark and quiet. It was me and that moon. I half expected Count Dracula to appear in his fancy evening wear -- "The spider spinning his web for the unwary fly. The blood is the life, Mr. Renfield." I've seen that movie too many times.

just the right time to sit on the porch and admire for a few hours.
