When Trayvon Martin was shot in the chest was the entry/exit pattern front to back or back to front??
The reports talk about finding Trayvon Martin face-down.
I haven't read anywhere and am wondering if the idiot police of Sanford are even checking that.

(67,112 posts)about all of this, so much is shrouded in mystery. I'm no expert at all, but I've heard that exit wounds are often significantly larger than entry wounds, but I guess that also depends on the type bullets used. Anyway, it seems to me an expert would know that by now, so the silence leads me to wonder WTF.

(12,029 posts)and getting shot in the chest would fling you backwards.

(16,038 posts)Most people when shot in front bend forward, then fall forward..
edit..the flying backward stuff is in the movies

(24,331 posts)People getting blown off their feet by being shot, even with the most powerful weapons, is the stuff of hollywood fantasy.

(32,714 posts)various size bullets and have never seen one pushed back by the shot. They either dip and then run away, or drop straight down.

(154,021 posts)Than a nine mil. (40 maybe, 45 has a slightly better chance, slightly better is the operative word, a lot of physics has to be just right for that to happen, and it is still highly unlikely)
Was he a weapons master for a film studio though, favorite film trick, even with lowly 25 caliber.
That is where that fantasy, and it is mostky one, comes from.

(2,466 posts)top of Zimmerman "bashing his head on the pavement" IF George shot Trayvon while he was on the bottom facing him, wouldn't he then either have to (and forgive me for being blunt) push the dead body either back or to the side? leaving it in a postion NOT face down?
It just seems like another HUGE hole in George Zimmerman's story

(16,038 posts)just isn't enough information out about it...it certainly doesn't mean anything by itself.

(35,350 posts)I can 't know. Haven't kept up with the mounds of pointless speculation and half-truths.
But if you push somebody off of you you could roll them or slide them. If you slide them, they're not usually, I'd think, wind up on their side. You'd slide the most inconvenient part of the corpse off first and then pull out from under the rest.
Gee, that sounds a lot grosser than I intended.

(16,093 posts)The ME's report is one of the few items in this case that hasn't been leaked, yet!
That's where the answer would be, and it could be why the head of the governor's "Task Force" has decided against a Grand Jury hearing.
It gives the authorities more time to fuck this investigation up, and let Zimmerman walk...or to guarantee they have enough to get a conviction...who the hell knows anymore!

(30,676 posts)we still don't have access to full police reports about the wound.

(38,613 posts)Maybe the info is out there and I missed it, but I haven't seen anything that even hints whether he was shot in the front or back

(36,340 posts)But he couldn't tell if it was an exit or entry wound. As he got the body after the autopsy, he couldn't be certain if there was or had been other bullet wounds.

(10,440 posts)Anyone do ballistics tests to see if it was at point blank or from any distance?
safeinOhio
(32,714 posts)is there are any powder burns on the body. Less than 3 feet there will be powder burns.
TheWraith
(24,331 posts)One, if the muzzle of the weapon were directly in contact with the body when it was fired, there wouldn't be any powder burns as such, but a "contact shot" leaves its own tell-tale marks.
The distance of the powder burns will also vary depending on the weapon used and barrel length, but "about three feet" is a good rule of thumb.

(154,021 posts)Follwing mostly the muzzle...
The two patients we took care off, they took photos with muzzle against them in ICU...they were treated as second degree burns.
They did remove some powder embedded in the tissue when they debriefed in the OR...of note, not visible at first check.
They should have done that during the autopsy.
At this point I even wonder if the ME did all.

(146,328 posts)to the public. That's pretty much standard procedure. It will be gone over thoroughly at the trial, though, or even in a civil suit.
Too often, we expect to know stuff that isn't usually released.

(14,177 posts)and Trayvon being shot, it is hard to say. However, if you think about it, it is most likely that he was shot in the chest. Zimmerman probably grabbed him threw him on the ground sat on him and shot him in the chest. It would be very hard to fit any other kind of scenario in that one minute. Zimmerman would have barely had time to confront him verbally. One minute is a guy is on top of you if you eventually shoot him in the chest withing a minute, that means you flipped him quick so as to not get blood on your clothes.
