I tried to make a point today about biased policing in Ferguson, Missouri based on reported police statistics.
Ms. Maddow gathered those same stats and more, added historical context, and blew the lid off the whole situation.
Here is the link to her segment: http://on.msnbc.com/1otpXGG
Thank you, Rachel Maddow.
I admire, respect and adore this woman even more today. Didn't think that was possible.
Silly me.

(8,175 posts)I also watched Hayes interview of Durin, the second young man involved, and his story is so different from the cop's version, it is just mind boggling. Of course none of this happened on dash cam (except maybe the dash cam picked up on the cop telling the boys to get the fuck up on the sidewalk). And maybe it recorded other sounds as well that will confirm Durin's version of events. Durin said Brown never pushed the cop back in his car...the door bounced off of them and back at the officer, which knocked him backward. The cop then grabbed brown by the throat through the window and then tried to pull him in through the window and the whole time Brown was just trying to pull away and push himself away against the door. The officer pulled his arm inside the vehicle, and the a shot went off and Brown backed up and was bleeding because he'd been shot. Then he turned and ran, and the officer got out of the vehicle and chased him.
As of the time of Hayes news report, the police and FBI and investigating personnel had not even spoken to Durin...an eye witness involved in the event and they said "they had other things going on". You always interview witnesses as soon as possible, I thought...while their memory is fresh. This whole thing just stinks. It's going to be the cops word against Durin's unless someone else can come forward to say they also witnessed it. There is a witness of the cop chasing and firing at Brown, and Brown turning and putting his hands up while the cop keeps approaching and firing.
There is just too much about this that does not make sense according to the cop's version, and does make sense according to Durin's. I think the cop is a lying sack of shit who came out looking for black to hassle that day.

(14,040 posts)on the Intertubes, the police in Ferguson don't have dash cams. I don't know if that's true or not, like I said, I read it on the Intertubes but I don't know if that's going to be a satisfactory resolution we're all hoping for (video from the cop cam).

(50,983 posts)It demonstrated conclusively that Ferguson, Missouri police (tip of the iceberg) have engaged in institutional racism.
Every single past conviction should be thrown out and records expunged.
This is something that would win in a federal court. [IMG][/IMG]
