Missouri Highway Patrol commander Ron Johnson explains last night's response

It's rumored that Missouri Highway Patrol commander Ron Johnson was not told about SWAT teams being called in. If so, that smells like a serious turf war brewing on the streets of Ferguson.

teargas cannister--as the police drove back and away from the confrontation--seemed like a deliberate "F-you!"--provocation and helped escalate the situation.

... was a result of community leaders' concerns that too great a response would only serve to inflame the crowd. According to accounts, the community itself did a fairly remarkable job in limiting the violence and looting.
Didn't Gov Nixon order the SWAT teams (St Louis Co PD) out of Ferguson? If they showed up, then it was in violation of Nixon's orders. Nixon should act promptly to remove St Louis Co chief from office.
