(2,642 posts)Our courts are of man, and as such, imperfect. For some, like Jordan Davis, there will be Justice. For others, Like Trayvon Martin, justice will be denied. This is a reflection of the imperfect world in which we live.
Though, too, the wheels of justice turn slowly. Eric Garner may yet see justice. Michael Brown may turn out to be something else entirely. But for all of it, we must have patience in the system we have. We must keep watch over the system and hold it to a higher standard by voting every time we can, and by always serving when that Jury Summons comes to us.
Son, some will tell you that this is about race, but I can point to a thousand cases where people of all races who have been guilty of terrible crimes have escaped justice. There is nothing we can do about this by rioting or causing trouble. We can do something about this by being good people ourselves, and standing up for what is right.
Son, I love you. I want only the best for you in this world. Be good. Be great. Carry my love for you out into this world and love others. And with that love, be good to others, and the likelihood is that the world will be good to you.
This, my son, doesn't fit in a four panel cartoon, but it is true, and it is life.

(14,587 posts)This America we have now is acting like a shameless, disgusting police state when it should be acting like a republic. These insane chest-pounding Tea Party 'patriots' will pull down the whole thing if we let them.
I'll tell you all what - if we don't show up at the polls in droves this November, we'll get EXACTLY the government an apathetic ignorant people deserve. Unfortunately, those who are aware and sane will be dragged down right along with the ignoramuses.
