NPR's Robert Siegel referred to Michael Brown's "thuggish behavior"

It was an interview with the attorney representing abrown's friend who witnessed the shooting.

Siegel's question ostensibly sought to give context to the chaos of the events but actually managed to disparage the witness while implying Brown's complicity in his own execution.

Nice choices of words, Robert.

2. glad I missed that

I was out of town for days and had to rely on NPR (and Michigan Public Radio) ... overall, I have felt they have portrayed this as the shooting of an unarmed black teen ... a community enraged by a long history of police brutality and racism .... adding in attempts to silence the press.

They have reported on the other things that have come to light .... but they did so in what sounded like a fair way.

I was actually pleased with the coverage I had heard over the past weekend .... glad I didn't hear Robert Siegel speaking in racist code

And these people who are doing everything to support murderous cops over unarmed black men make me even more sick.

And he is off on a paid vacation. Robert Siegel is sucking up to be in with the cool thugs. Fuck them all. A teen is dead.

10. People who use "thug" or "thuggish" to refer to young African Americans are using racist code
Mon Aug 18, 2014, 06:43 PM

Some may be doing it through ignorance, and I suspect poor Robert Seigel falls in that category. But he is replicating and authorizing a vicious racist codeword in doing so.

Most people I see using it that way are out-and-out racists, and should be IGNORED.

No doubt some "thug" use defenders will come crying here about "censorship" and "political correctness" and "the behavior" and a million other excuses they use to justify their own racist beliefs. Whatever.

He could have been the next Poet laureate. The rank racism I am seeing, is appalling. If people are still blind to institutionalized racism, then they are not paying attention. From all sides that young man has been attacked...just a kid to me (I'm 43) and it is unacceptable.

Bob Seigel used to have a mind for this media. Guess he can join the other carrot strokers like Cokie Roberts.
