This is the best Karl Rove's Super PAC could come up with against the Buffett Rule

This is the best Karl Rove's Super PAC could come up with against the Buffett Rule

by Jed Lewison

American Crossroads, the Republican Super PAC created by Karl Rove, enters the Buffett Rule debate with a resoundingly lame thud:

So the Rove group's big idea is to create a Facebook petition asking Barack Obama and Warren Buffett to voluntarily pay more in taxes. Could they possibly be more childish?

The thing that makes taxes taxes is that they aren't voluntary. You don't have a choice. If it's voluntary, it's a donation. And as Warren Buffett himself pointed out the last time this came up, you're not going to erase a $1.2 trillion deficit by asking for voluntary contributions.

Expecting Warren Buffett or Barack Obama to personally close the deficit is as dumb as expecting Mitt Romney to dig into his own pocket to restore Clinton era levels of employment. The fact is that we've got a national problem, and it's going to require a national solution. Karl Rove should know that. After all, he was "the brain" of the guy who created the problem in the first place.

But to the brainwashed sheep who vote over and over against their own interests, and then blame the resulting mess on "evil libruls!", it makes perfect sense.
