The problem with this country is they only value investment and no one values an hour of labor

It used to be a being a Democrat meant you were pro-union and pro-labor. Times have changed. Even here on DU, union bashing is tolerated. I have actual seen "liberals" here post anti-union rhetoric. To me, being a Democrat means being pro-labor. It is a core issue.

It is Labor Day today, and I have not seen one post celebrating labor, unions, or just the american worker. As long as this country continues to only value investment and NOT value labor, things will NOT get better. A strong labor force makes everything better. Equal rights? Health Care? Education? So many of these problems and issues are mitigated by a strong work face making good money with a union there to ensure management does not do anything sleezy. The rich are very content to keep us poor, uneducated, and unhealthy. It makes it really hard to challenge the elite when you do not know if you can afford penicillin for your kids' tonsillitis or afford to put gas in your car. Labor unions level the playing field.

Europe celebrates their labour movement; we are ashamed of ours. Reagan killed the unions and now, even President Obama has been no more than lukewarm in his union support.

As the son of a union man and woman, and the grandson of a coa miner who was at Ludlow and then fought in the Colorado Coal Wars-- HAPPY LABOR DAY!

people think that a work week has always been 40 hours; overtime pay was always time and a half; safety laws in workplace have always existed; workplaces always had to comply with safety laws etc.
It also kills me that people think it will always be that way.
Just more ignorance.

We are put "on the market" and the lowest bid wins.
It's a race to the bottom, man.

And yes, it started in the 80's with Reagan.

Labor is not worth enough to be actually worth anyone's time to do. It might actually cost you money to be doing physical labor.

But if you invest/speculate/innovate/bullshit in the right direction, you can make a million bucks in an hour!
