Filled up today, and even though it was $4.03, it was down from a week ago when it was at $4.11. Seems to be down 5-8 cents/gallon in the Maryland/DC/NoVA area.

(131,106 posts)friend in Silver Spring noticed up-tick; we DON'T BUY @ $4.11; pay cash where we can, and much closer to upper 3.90s than YOU, mad!!!

(64,933 posts)New job. Gotta buy gas every 3-4 days. I try and go where it is most convenient and don't really drive out of the way to get it. You just tend to burn what you are saving when you drive out of the way.
I was in Rockville/Gaithersburg yesterday afternoon, and I saw on Rt 28 gas at several places between 3.97 and 4.01.

(131,106 posts)Agree driving out of the way is a no-win, but as retired and out of the way hardly exists, easier for us. My 'fave' 'cheap gas' in Frederick, on way to/from Hagerstown + Silver Spring. 'Liberty' and 'Free State' tend to be less expensive.

(25,973 posts)from $3.85 to $3.69 in the past week or so. I wonder if it's related to a threat issued by Barack Obama and Nicolas Sarkozy to release strategic reserves onto the market. Even though no oil was released, I'm sure the threat alone was enough to make the oily speculators shit a little.

(7,932 posts)I live in Chicago, and my girlfriend lives 30 minutes away in Indiana. Gas near her house is usually 30 or 40 cents cheaper then by my house.

(17,064 posts)but my sister also goes to school in Southern Illinois and its alot cheaper there as well.

(17,064 posts)Just driving from Pinellass to Hillsborough Co gas is several cents more. Cross the Fl/Ga state line and gas is several cents cheaper. State and local taxes are a good bit more than the Federal gas tax, which has remained steady for many years at something like 18 cents/gal.

(1,732 posts)you'd understand why the gas is $7/gallon there. Hardly anyone drives there, and if they do, they mostly use electric golf carts.
I would love to live on Catalina Island.
Starboard Tack
(11,181 posts)but they are moving slowly in that direction. The entire island is powered by diesel fuel from SoCAl Edison, to the tune of 7,000+ gallons of diesel fuel per day. Most of the golf carts are still 2 stroke engines which are huge polluters. The Edison diesel generator is a massive polluter.
Apart from that, I can't think of anywhere I'd rather live.

(1,732 posts)I don't do much golfing, but in my growing up my grandfather lived on a golfcourse, and his golf cart was always electric (plugged into the wall inside the garage) and the carts and his country club were electric as well. In my small world, I guess I assumed it was generally like that.
I've never rented a golf cart while on Catalina, so no personal experience there. I enjoy walking through town and hiking the island more than anything. Do you live in Avalon, or just familiar with the island?

(11,181 posts)I spend a lot of time in Avalon and around the island in various coves. On the way there right now, as a matter of fact, to do some provisioning. Maybe even play some golf. Been spending a lot of time here for over twenty years. Love the place.

(1,732 posts)Two Harbors and Shark Harbor. Don't frequent Avalon too much here, but I like to get to the island at least once a year.

(8,933 posts)where last week it was under 4. hope it at least hits some plateau at some time soon. Just glad I don't have to go many places. But my husband was thinking of not doing a garden this year and I told him that it would be a good idea to do whatever we can because the gas prices are going to make prices go up more.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)That was about $0.20/gal higher than my previous fillup 3 weeks earlier.
