RIP MTP
by digby
It's over folks:
NBC is bringing in Luke Russert, son of the late beloved Meet the Press host Tim Russert, as a regular panelist on the Sunday morning show in a bid to turn around its catastrophic ratings slide, Page Six has exclusively learned.
Also joining new moderator Chuck Todds team will be former Republican congressman and Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough, who sources say is taking on a larger role within NBC News as a senior political analyst and would be one of the regular Sunday panelists.
Were told the move is part of a plan to bring a right-leaning voice to the program to appeal to viewers turned off by the shows famously left-leaning former hosts including the ousted David Gregory.

Yes, the problem with David Gregory was that he was so left-leaning.
It's ok. Who watches that crap anyway besides junkies like me who have to?

Every time I hear praise for Russert I have to check to make sure I'm not in Bizarro World.
I have no idea where the affectionate nostalgia originates, but Russert was as good a friend as Conservatives could have hoped, a millionaire beltway insider who championed the well-placed and privileged.

I haven't watched MTP in a long time. The only time I do is when Rachel is on and then I TiVo it so I can fast forward to the section where she is on it.

Yeah, that pretty much set the bar for Luke's career to date.

(23,664 posts)I have no use for chucky toad, but he better not make any major fuckups, because I guarantee you the long term plan in somebody's evil mind is to put baby russert in the job full time.
This is after all, NBC, where nepotism is king.

This couldn't illustrate the panel any better.

(13,069 posts)...was that the host was too left leaning. As I have stated many times, the problem was not solely with Gregory, it was with the rightwing producers. They chose the guests, they chose the slant...and it was to regurgitate talking points.
They are so trapped in the right wing bubble that they truly thought the show should be more right leaning! Haaahaahaa. That is a crack up.
So they add morning Joe! The biggest rw tool of them all! He will get faxed the talking points every Sunday and spew them ad nauseum.
And the ratings will continue to plummet.

(53,235 posts)I don't watch any tv news. I read it from a variety of sources, can read, interpret, and spot bias using a small fraction of the time people spend watching and listening on tv or radio, and can do so without the inane crap that goes along with it.
That's what I do for news. Talk shows? I can't imagine spending a nanosecond of precious time listening to talking media heads spouting crap. I don't need them to inform myself or to form my own opinions and positions.
