One in six French people say they support ISIS

WTF? Higher even than in Gaza.

Two polls released this week both ask a question that you would hope wouldn't need asking: how many people support the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS)? Unfortunately, in all four countries surveyed, the answer is greater than zero, and by a lot.

Here is a chart of the results of the polls. The first, by ICM Research, asked people in Germany, France, and the UK whether they had a favorable or unfavorable view of ISIS. The second, by the Palestinian Center for Public Opinion, asked Gazans whether they support or oppose ISIS. Here are the results.

France has a large Muslim population, but that alone doesn't explain the results of the poll, because only about 7 or 8% of the population there is Muslim (obviously not all Muslims support ISIS, but one would expect that the level of support among Muslims would be higher than among non-Muslims).

Many french people (I have dual french-us citizenship and was born there) have this contrarian attitude. They are never happy, always grumbling about somebody or something. On one hand, it is good since it makes them go into the street to defend their rights and the government is actually scarred of them rather than here where you get gassed or worse. The flip side is that if you take a poll in France on something like that, many will just vote for ISIS because they want to stick it to the man.. I doubt that many actually would support ISIS for real.
