Televangelist Pat Robertson on Thursday told an 80-year-old viewer, who gave more than 10 percent to the church, that she should get a job or sell stuff on eBay if she couldnt afford her medical bills. My husband and I are in our 80s and have been tithing for many years, the viewer wrote Robertson in a letter. We both love the Lord and give willingly and our tithe is over 10 percent.
The woman said that she thanked God for her blessings, but we never have an extra penny after our monthly bills are paid. Our old car just broke down and we had to borrow money to fix it, she continued. We both need dental work, but we cant afford it. I constantly have to use our credit card to pay for medical needs
What could we be doing wrong? Robertson recommended that the viewer ask God to show you some ways of making money.
There are many ways of making money, even at 80 years old, he explained. You know, you can get on the telephone, people are hiring. There are all kinds of things you can do. For example, you may have a bunch of junk lying around in your garage that you can sell on eBay, and get some money that way.
There are many, many ways of making money, the TV preacher continued. And youre looking at the downside of all the bills youve got instead of saying, God, Ive been faithful to you. Now, I claim my blessing, and I ask you to open the windows of heaven and pour me out a blessing. Show me what youre going to do, show me how I can move into blessing. So, just ask him. http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/09/04/pat-robertson-to-80-year-old-who-cant-pay-bills-keep-tithing-get-a-job-sell-your-stuff-on-ebay/

(359 posts)Hours are good, lots of bennies. And people send you in their last $10. She could be jetting around in her private jet in no time at all, just needs to apply her self. What's not to love?
Note: a TRUE Christan leader would have told her to stay on the phone while he put her in touch with his church's elderly outreach team for REAL help paying her bills.

(10,340 posts)Seriously, why are these 80yr old people so lazy? The real problem is that they're probably not giving ENOUGH money to the church.

(33,688 posts)those poor folks pretty badly in terms of return on investment. Maybe they should hang on to the money they are giving to the fraud, umm, church.
And Pat Robertson should be rendered down for lard; then he'd be useful for the first time in his existence. What a pig.

(39,215 posts)get medicare and because of my low ssa i also get SSI and Medicaid. It seems that he should have suggested she apply for further assistance and food stamps. From the good old boys prespective he thinks God couldn't have possibly provide this help through the government but he is wrong. At one time the preachers (totally unlike him) of this nation and their congregations voted for people who created these safety net programs. In those days it was considered that greed was a sin.
