My guess is they sat her down when it came time to plan the defense strategy and told her, "Look, Toots, if you want to have any chance to get out of this, you gotta play along. This is what we HAVE to do to try to save your ass from prison or to reduce how many things you'll get convicted on".

I thought it was a stupid strategy, given all the evidence that they had showing the Guvnor was only SOOO happy to enjoy the goodies they got from their friend. Smiling Bob in the fancy car, grinning Bob showing off the watch....only a few of the things that were presented to show that he was a willing participant in this whole mess.

No, I don't believe for a minute she was surprised by this strategy. It was determined that it was what they needed to do in order to save themselves from conviction. And yep, she crawled under that bus herself. No one had to push her under there. Looks like it failed miserably.

OH, BOO HOO!! (Guvnor crying softly as the verdict is read).....

trying to portray her as crazy. She could hire a different lawyer and claim that she didn't know any better, that her lawyer never suggested that she might want to be evaluated by a psychiatrist, and that as a woman of faith, she trusted her husband and his lawyers. After all, she wasn't the one who went to Law school.

in Va. the penalty is 2-10 years for each count! I know they're going to appeal, but as one of the TV talking heads just said, "that this many counts would ever go away is really far fetched." I could see if there was only one or two, but 14 (& in wife's case 9), it's highly unlikely.

Glad you're here! This is pretty doggone satisfying, on its face. DELIGHTED that EX-governor Vaginal Probe and his lovely wife, Gimme Freestuff, got what's coming to them. Wonder what romney and his ilk would say about THESE TWO "they-just-want-free-stuff" specimens. THEY are lazy moochers who want free stuff, too - think they DESERVE free stuff! Only difference is - THEY mooch fancy cars, chi-chi vacations, designer clothes, and Rolex watches.

World's Biggest Entitlement Program, Part Two. Not only that they're entitled to rule, but they're entitled to all the fancy fun stuff - without having to pay for it.

but I won't believe in the justice system until their asses are in jail.
I am sure their high priced law team already has escape hatches for them. After all, they are middle-aged, white and Republican, not the kind of person America usually sends to jail.

When they do go to jail I hope it is one that that is commensurate with what I consider one of the worst sins out there - betraying the public trust.

One reasonable explanation I heard on the teevee is that he knew he wasn't violating VA law but was ignorant of the fact that he was violating federal law.

Or maybe in all the religiosity he became convinced that God was on his side and would allow him to do whatever he wanted.
