Stephen Colbert mocks Fox pundits for wishing foreigners ruled America

On the September 3, 2014 episode of The Colbert Report, Stephen Colbert addressed conservative complaints about the front President Barack Obama is showing to the world.

He began by showing a clip of an irate Brian Kilmeade on Fox & Friends, who was griping about the president’s statement last week about not having a strategy against the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). “Where’s our plan of action?” Kilmeade loudly asked. “Germany’s got one! Germany’s on the move!”

“Yes!” Colbert replied, “there’s nothing more reassuring than the phrase, ‘Germany’s on the move!’ Why can’t they lead the United States?”

“But folks,” he continued, “there might be someone even better than the Germans to lead America to war.” He then showed a series of adulatory clips of David Cameron “getting tough on terrorism” culled from Fox News. “I love what David Cameron is saying,” one Fox News guest said, “and I wish our president could do the same thing.”

“But David Cameron,” Colbert said, “pales in comparison to the man I would like to lead us — Frank Underwood from House of Cards. If you haven’t stolen your ex-girlfriend’s Netflix password yet, Frank Underwood is a man who rose to prominence through lying, scheming, backstabbing, and murder — but he gets things done in Washington. And if you can buy into that crazy premise, it’s a really great show.”
