All the Black History Books I've read are wrong!!!!

Slaves were resented by poor white folks because slaves had it so much better than white folks who were poor. I was told today. The racism is so blatant and ignorant these days. The person had "black friends" teach them this. Good Lord these people never cease to amaze me how low they can go.

we have a whole group of people now who will talk until they're blue in the face about how people on public assistance are "living it up" (the old "welfare queen" meme). That doesn't mean their belief is based in anything close to reality, but they seem to believe it anyway.

It was the practice of slavery by (obscenely wealthy) white men that drove down wages for poor whites.

The slaves were not responsible for the plight of the poor whites-the slaveowners were. This is a crucial distinction.

I guess they did feed them - they had to maintain their investment.

The part about being able to sell them to someone else who would continue this cradle to grave maintenance indicates they didn't think they were human enough to become attached to the people they knew or/and were their family.

Even the most comfortable, relatively, slave was not free to do what they wanted for their lives. So I guess these idiots expect us to accept their view of black inferiority and how kind it was for master to "take care" of them and make sure they had a place in the world.

When I read that anyone who has someone speak up for them, is weak, and should fight every battle on their own. Here silly little me thought that speaking up against injustice and helping each other were progressive values, as encapsulated in trade unions, the suffragette movement, the abolitionist movement, but I guess I was wrong. We should each be an alpha and manage on our own.

who can't handle the trauma of taking a rape prosecution to court, or are so emotionally out of control they are easily baited into irrational and outbursts.

People find all kinds of creative ways to defend misogyny (as well as other forms of bigotry), and sadly some of them are women. The point is to prop up power and privilege and make sure anyone who challenges it is put in their place. Such arguments are essential to the perpetration of exploitation and oppression. They work to impede people from working together for a better society, and that cannot abide.

I know people keep saying that DU's only purpose is to get Democrats elected, but honestly, considering the quality of the Democrats that have been elected/appointed to government, the US needs a forum where they also work to get progressive candidates standing for the Democratic party. It is the only thing that will save the country, in my eyes. And when you have posters who denigrate the very idea of working together, essentially espousing Ayn Randianism in all seriousness, I wonder what DU is coming to.

Also, blacks could own slaves. This shows that any black slave who worked hard and long enough could be prosperous himself too and own slaves. In fact, women could do it as there was one woman in New Orleans who married a white man and when he died, she inherited his slaves, thus becoming a black woman who owned slaves.

And many of the slaves were white.

The whole system had nothing to do with race, as the races had equal opportunity, you see.

Yes, I've had someone argue these points to me. And they don't believe me when I inform them they are the biggest racist idiot on the planet.

Prince Bandar bin Sultan, friends of both Bushes, former Ambassador to the US and he ran the Syrian war until last spring for the Saudis ( he got shit canned when ISIL went rouge) anyway, his mom was an african woman sold into slavery who the Saudi king took a liking to.

To be truthful, there are indeed, sadly, a few conservative African-Americans who really have fallen for the old RWNJ line of slaves always having it better than poor white folks, or that slavery was a "blessing&quot instead of the tragedy that it really was), etc.

Although, chances are, the guy who told you this may have just been making it up as he went along. A lot of dumber nutcons do do that.
