S Truett Cathy, founder of restaurant chain Chick-fil-A, dies aged 93

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/sep/08/s-truett-cathy-founder-chick-fil-dies-aged-93
<snip>
S Truett Cathy, the billionaire founder of the Chick-fil-A restaurant chain that famously closes on Sundays but also drew attention on gay marriage because of his family's conservative views, has died at the age of 93.

Chick-fil-A spokesman Mark Baldwin said Cathy died at home surrounded by members of his family. Funeral plans had not yet been finalised, he said.

Those religious views helped win Cathy and his family loyal following from conservative customers, but also invited protests when Cathy's son denounced gay marriage.

Cathy's son, Dan, who is chairman and president of the chain, told the Baptist Press in 2012 that the company was "guilty as charged" for backing "the biblical definition of a family", prompting gay rights groups to call for boycotts and kiss-ins at Cathy's restaurants. The Jim Henson Company pulled its Muppet toys from children's meals, while politicians in Boston and Chicago told the chain it was not welcome there.

Chick-fil-A is one of my favorites. In a world of McDonalds, that place really stands out. Seems I crave it the most on Sundays though. Bummer.

I don't let every little opinion and slight to my personal ethos determine how I live my life. If I did, I'd be living in a cave eating lichen off of rocks. You and the rest of the DU puritan brigade would still probably find a way to grill me over that, though.

How does eating something prepared by someone else lead you to believe that someone can't cook. That's an incredibly cerebral line of thought. Do you walk up to people at the grocery store buying produce and derisively ask "What's the matter? Can't farm?

The guy donated millions to hate groups, and you try and make it sound like we're thought police...thought are thoughts, actions are actions, and people protested his actions, you so-and-so.

I've found that if you warm it up in the toaster oven rather than the microwave it's almost as good as it is fresh. Of course, I'm only talking about the chicken pieces, not the sandwiches.

Some grocery stores have 'restaurant-style' chicken patties in their frozen aisle. Very similar in taste.
McDonald's southern-style chicken sandwich. If the golden arches aren't in your 'no business' category yet, it tastes remarkably similar.

try this recipe.

What my wife and I have done differently is use a buttermilk batter instead of plain milk, and marinated the chicken in dill pickle juice 6 hours before cooking.

flavor anymore. Probably because of all the nasty chemicals they feed them in those factory farms. Now if you can find a backyard chicken raiser that let's the birds free range, you'll find tasty chicken.

Not going to engage in grave dancing on in this case. (Please feel free to put me on ignore if you don't like that). Still I think he and his family were and continue to be WRONG on GLBT equality and other issues as well. And I am still not going to eat at a Chick-fil-A
