I think of that very typical American, "Joe the Pretend Plumber"...to be fair to him, he was expressing the view of probably half or even more than half of America. Joe was flabbergasted that the president would do what most presidents have done before, oversee a government that thru taxation redistributes wealth and resources so society doesnt spin out of control.
The oligarchs have spent hundreds of millions maybe billions on training us to react negatively to all the positive ideas we have.
Common sense dictates that 6 individuals cant have the same wealth as 140 million people, as is the case in America with the Walton Family, but ask the average american if taxation and regulation should exist to reverse that and they will get nervous.
How do we go about retraining people not to fear that which is best for them?
Oh, and vote.

If we could only educate people as to just how terrible Reagan was, how horrific his economic policies were.

(52,253 posts)they've trained a whole generation to eagerly accept the incessant manipulation of their most primitive emotions, most notably fear and greed, and to think of it as being politically informed, rather than recognize it as the brainwashing propaganda that it is.
there is not a single act that obama has done, speech he has given, or suit he has warn that would not be praised as the greatest act, speech, or suit ever had it been done by a republican president and the right-wing noise machine had decided to tell their sheep to support it.
and yet they still think of themselves as having a philosophy and acting on principle, yet it is as nakedly partisan as can be.
