Israeli Minister Says Hamas Truce Will Be ‘Limited in Time

“They will continue to manufacture and smuggle weapons,” Liberman told journalists today in Jerusalem. “Any cease-fire, in my opinion, will be limited in time.”

Israel and Hamas agreed to stop more than seven weeks of fighting on Aug. 26 after mediation from Egypt, with indirect talks on pending issues, including demands from Hamas for a seaport and an airport, to resume within a month.

About 2,100 Palestinians, including hundreds of civilians, died in the fighting. Seventy-two people were killed on the Israeli side, among them 67 soldiers -- the highest number since Israel’s 2006 war in Lebanon.
