DUers Have the Power to Make a Difference in 2014 with GOTV Efforts.

The number of DUers who read the posts on this site far outnumber those who post on DU. I don't know the actual numbers, but if every person who reads DU takes the time to get 10 other people out to their polling place in November and encourages those people to bring more people with them, Democrats would be helped measurably in winning those essential House seats we need to take majority control of Congress. And that doesn't ignore the state legislative seats, which may be even more important in individual states.

Yes, there are many other issues to discuss on DU, and we should be discussing those like we always do, but the GOTV message needs to be discussed, too. November is coming up fast and the election will soon be on us. It's never too early to begin GOTV efforts, and states with mail-in ballot options are already voting.

So, let's discuss everything, but keep the subject of the November 2014 election on the first page of GD every day until that election. I encourage everyone to contribute a GOTV thread by writing an original post that explains why you're involved with GOTV efforts. For myself, my personal walking, door-knocking and talking campaign in my precinct neighborhood has resulted in many people going to the polls in past elections who told me they weren't planning to vote. GOTV works!

to register at the polling place on election day, too, but I always have registration forms and information when I walk my precinct, too. There's also a link on the precinct website, which I maintain, that lets people get registration information.

It's a proven fact that people who register to vote prior to an election almost always vote in that election. Voter Registration is a powerful GOTV strategy.

And failing to show backbone and back the Maddow agenda of higher taxes on wealthy, less military spending no cuts to so ail safety net etc.

Exhortations to get out the vote in the absence of anything or anyone to vote for is fail. People will motivate themselves when there is a reason. The corp dems are killing the party

You're wrong, you know. Almost all legislative elections, both state and federal, are local elections, and local GOTV efforts work very well, thank you very much.

A strong GOTV effort by Democrats, as individuals, won't win every district, of course, but it can win more than enough to turn the tables on the Republicans.

I want to see this headline in many districts in November:

Surprising Democratic Upset Win Tuesday's Election!

Maybe you're not willing to work for that, but please don't discourage those who are. Thanks.

it's surrender.

if you dont like the choices on the ballot, the time to do something about that is in the primaries. if you dont like those choices, run yourself, or find someone you like better and support them.

but at this point, you only have the choices before you. either pick on yourself, or others will pick for you.

It's time to elect Democrats to every position we can. Any individual Democrat may not be perfect, but as a group, Democrats vote for progress. Republicans never do! That simple fact should send everyone running to the polling place to vote. We need Democratic majorities in every legislative body.

ConservaDem Cuomo will almost certainly be renominated. Nevertheless, there are some state legislative races that are competitive. Even in the marquee race, the commentariat will be analyzing the significance of Cuomo's margin against a little-known progressive challenger.

My pedantry about getting details right is not intended to deprecate GOTV work.

We're getting like 90 percent turn-out for people that vote absentee (by mail) instead of the 40 percent in person. Already, a number of state level Democrats have won because the mail-in ballots made the difference.
