Boyack, 91, and Dubes, 90, sat next to each other during Saturdays ceremony, the Quad City Times reports.
This is a celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago, the Rev Linda Hunsaker told the small group of close friends and family who attended.
The women met in their hometown of Yale, Iowa, while growing up. Then they moved to Davenport in 1947 where Boyack taught school and Dubes did payroll work.
Dubes said the two have enjoyed their life together and over the years they have traveled to all 50 states, all the provinces of Canada, and to England twice.
Weve had a good time, Dubes said.
Boyack said it takes a lot of love and work to keep a relationship going for 72 years.

72 years? And neither Iowa - nor America - imploded. More evidence that the right wing is just plain wrong about this issue.

I was thinking the same thing.
But I am happy they are getting what they want and deserve after all these years.
Did anyone notice how much they look alike? They say the longer two people stay together, the more they look like each other. Never thought this was true, but hmmm.

(67,111 posts)turn ALL of their children LGBT, and institute an LGBT run country. One has to be careful of these crafty older people posing as innocents pushing the "Gay Agenda" (whatever that is supposed to be.)!

(813 posts)I had a great aunt who died about ten years ago at the age of 100, and had a "live in roommate" for decades. We all knew that they were lesbians, but since aunt TeTe never brought the word up, we respected that. She was of the Victorian era after all. They were completely devoted to each other. When Gladys got too much to handle for my elderly aunt, she had to put her in a nursing home. I'm sure it killed her to do it, but she sat with Gladys all day, every day. If only some heterosexuals could take a play from that book, we'd all be a lot better off. She was heartbroken when Gladys finally died. Great ladies!

(813 posts)I think the RWNJs think this is a new phenomenon, but it is as old as time itself. The family knew, but no one had a problem with it. You love who you love! Twenty years after Gladys died, aunt TeTe was still telling "Gladys stories". The same as any heterosexual person who has lost a loved one. I think she would be amazed at the way this country is embracing same sex marriage, though I don't know that with her upbringing if she would've taken advantage of it, if it was offered to her. Maybe I'm under estimating her though. I'd like to think she would have.

(67,111 posts)millions upon millions upon millions. It's great that it has become more out in the open! I'm absolutely amazed there is marriage now. I think many people are now more understanding once they started realizing LGBT people are just like them, same struggles in life, happiness and goals.

(2 posts)Proof that contrary to what hateful people say, things like being Gay is a sexual anomaly, this has nothing to do with sex. It has everything to do with love. I wish them Peace and Happiness. BTW I am not gay, but I defend, and demand their rights and respect, with the same passion that I defend, and demand my own as a Afro American Male.
