(17,863 posts)and are now lying about it. It was reported at the time that a second video existed and several reporters are on record saying the Ravens and the NFL had seen it. Some of those reporters (namely Peter King) are now backtracking, but the fact that they knew a video existed, would have been available to Rice and his legal team, and refused to view it make you feel.

(43,182 posts)My favorite baseball team was run into the ground for 14 straight years thanks to inept ownership before finally recovering. My second favorite baseball team keeps on selling off its best-known players even after getting a partially publicly funded stadium. I've long moved past the point where a team's owners affects whether I root for them or not. I root for a team because of the city they represent, nothing more and nothing less.
Most sports teams owners are corrupt jerks. If you wanted to base your allegiance to a sports team based on upstanding team ownership.....well, good luck.

On a blind date, the subject of domestic violence came up. My date was surprised when I said I'd never see someone again if they hit me even once. (17,600 posts)"should get a second chance" after hitting a woman* even once, he's either an abuser himself or seriously in need of re-educating. If the latter, telling him you're no longer interested could be a valuable first step in that education.
* hopefully it's obvious I mean in a domestic situation ... I can imagine other situations where it doesn't matter what gender the aggressor is, it's ok to defend yourself. But in a domestic situation, one should never resort to violence. If one is the weaker, it's stupid, and if one is the stronger, it's immoral.

(17,863 posts)move heaven and earth to prove that the NFL had viewed the video or at least had been presented the video to be viewed. The player's contract does not allow them and go back to revise punishment after the original decision has been made. If Rice shows that nothing has changed, then I suspect he will get a nice settlement from the NFL.
The NFL is should be ashamed along with the reporters, the DA, and everyone else involved in this business.
The Ravens have every right to cut him though. I won't give them any cred for doing it now. The video has always been available.
JimDandy

(25,704 posts)Punishment for off field conduct was a bargained issue between the union and the owners. They agreed to the framework.
He got 2 games and did no appeal. He was serving his suspension, upholding his contract.
The new video came out. Ravens cut him. Ok, within their rights but since the season started last thursday, Rice's contract became vested and they are in the hook for this year's salary and there are salary cap issues going forward.
The nfl saying they did not know about the video? Pure, unadulterated horseshit. They just figured it would not get out.
Rice has nothing to lose - he has lost it all. Litigate, litigate, litigate. Sue ravens, the owners, union if they do not grieve this. Subpeona tmz, the casino etc.

If you call what she did in the video at 11 seconds a slap, then I'd stay out of boxing rings 'cause you've gotta have a glass jaw or bad eyesight. including the video from inside the elevator. That video was not made available to us and no one in our office has seen it until today," the league said in a statement released to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.Really? Is law enforcement in the habit of handing evidence to the NFL just like that? Or is the league trying to imply that the police leaked the video to TMZ? And why didn't they ask the CASINO for the video?
My guess is that TMZ finally came up with the right purchase price for the second video, which was lifted from the casino.
