And just to show how out of touch she is with the average American women here is her first & so far only tweet:
"I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys. Believe me, it was hard work."
Needless to say, twitterers are jumping all over it. Mostly due to her being out of touch and for her "first world problems".

My heart is breaking for the problems the 1% must endure.

(1,772 posts)HR said Ann Romney had "never worked a day in her life" on Anderson tonight.
The righrwing is running in full faux-outrage tonight calling it an attack on stay at home moms. They are calling HR an Obama advisor (which she isn't).
Expect Faux News to run with this all day tomorrow.

(53,339 posts)...by demoting the woman who is the U.S. Secretary of State to "advisor"?

(602 posts)but she is missing the point. She had the privilege of being able to stay home. That's a 1% problem. Most folks don't have a choice. They have to work to survive.

(27,315 posts)40 years ago, many women could afford to stay home and did. Rosen is basically saying them they are disqualified as well.

(15,882 posts)And it would have been a damn site harder without $250 million taken from the hard work of others.
You do realize Mi$$ can't just buy the U.S., sell off the assets, load it up with debt and walk away with the fees to continue to support your lifestyle, right?
That's already been done.

I hope David Axelrod reads DU and sees your reply--I would love to see THAT on Twitter!
Well done!

(13,776 posts)I guess I understand why Axelrod responded the way he did:
"Also Disappointed in Hilary Rosen's comments about Ann Romney," David Axelrod wrote. "They were inappropriate and offensive."

But the fact remains that staying at home was an option for Ann Romney and isn't for most of the 99%. It would also be interesting to know whether she had nannies or babysitters--not that there is ANYTHING wrong with hiring help for what really is a difficult job (it really is--it's not like on TV)--and I would actually doubt her sanity if, with her resources, she didn't hire help. But that would be another way in which she had advantages that few non-wealthy people have.

(54,041 posts)I've never met an ugly Mormon and I've never met an ugly Venezuelan. I live in a big city and I've run into plenty of both in my life. No, forget ugly, I've never met either a Mormon nor a Venezuelan who was even slightly homely. I don't know what it is, but both populations just seem to be really attractive people. They should all be barred from beauty contests just for skewing the average.
So maybe Ann Romney had troubles raising her boys. What mom didn't? But damn that brood is easy on the eyes. It couldn't have been that hard. Not as hard as raising five ugly sons. Say Trig Romney mouthed off to mom one day. What do you think she said? "Fuel up the Lear, Jenkins! I need you fly Trig back to his room without supper!" That's tough love there.
On consideration, I think Venezuelans are just slightly prettier than Mormons, but not by much. I've give half a year's salary for a shot at Marie Osmond. Damn.

(27,315 posts)And yes, raising 5 sons is hard, even if it may have not been as hard on her.
The point is not that not working a day in her life disqualify her. The point is that being that rich and out of touch disqualify her.

(33,224 posts)If the first lady is simply window dressing, only there to pick out China and take vacation-y photo ops in exotic places, then her professional background is indeed irrelevant.
But if the first lady has a useful role to play (e.g. Bill Clinton's "it's a two-for-the-price-of-one deal" then it's relevant to appraise what they spent their lives doing.
It seems to me that the former is arguably more condescending and misogynist than the latter.
Although "stay at home" is an imperfect description of what I do, I've been the errand/chores/cooking parent for several years, and although it's rewarding, it's not as hard as working for someone else and it's not preparatory for any important public job.

(3,118 posts)- with my two small children and it was hard work. Frankly, I felt it more difficult than working a 40 hr. week with children and I did that for about 15 years. I don't blame her for her reply back to the comment.
I thought the comment about her never working was ill-advised and inappropriate. Small and just plain cheezy, IMO. Mostly because I think that wives and children should be "hands off" in a campaign.
