Perspective: What Michael Moore said about GWBush

“I would like to apologize for referring to George W. Bush as a deserter. What I meant to say is that George W. Bush is a deserter, an election thief, a drunk driver, a WMD liar, and a functional illiterate. And he poops his pants.”

None of them things any other president should wish to be remembered for.

I think Obama has accomplished more than just being the first black president, but he is no FDR in my eyes, and that remains the gold standard of a noteworthy Democrat in my book.

24. What? He is foretelling the future
Thu Sep 11, 2014, 11:05 PM

Most monarchs and many leaders end up with a cognomen -- a name which is added before or after the person's name, like Ivan the Terrible or William the Conqueror. I think Bush will go down as Bush the Idiot. One does not get to have more than a single defining characteristic so it must be chosen with care.

To proclaim that Obama might go down as the first black president implies he will be followed by others. And MM himself acknowledged this was no small achievement. I hope the first woman president may well be remembered more for being female than for being the spouse of a previous president, but this is yet to be seen.

This weird idea that we can predict how people of the future will perceive our era or that our opinion will have any influence on future notions of what long dead presidents have accomplished is absurd. Aside from a few old statues left behind, people will have nary a clue who they are. Or do you think the whole damn mall in DC is going to be littered with memorials to all the string of ineffectual and incompetent presidents we have endured in the 20 and 21st century?

Florida would ahve never been close enough to result in the SCOTUS decision.

I lay 2000 100% at the feet of Nader and his supporters NATIONWIDE.

Every last one of his supporters bears the responsibility of everything that happened from January 20, 2001 to January 20 2009.

I've been involved in Democratic politics at the grassroots level since 1976.

I will always consider the Green Party more my political enemies than the Republican Party. The Green Party purposefully forces Democrats into two front wars so they cannot win.

While I wasn't happy about his comments about Obama's administration, something about what he said struck me, not as "racist", or even prejudiced in any sense, but rather, one of cynicism and disillusionment. And there are a fair number of Democrats and other folks on the left out there who are, to some degree(in fact, I was, myself, for a good while).

And to be truthful, just jumping the gun, and assuming somebody is a racist, or a sexist, etc., simply because they may express disillusionment with Obama, is not at all helpful to anyone, period. Especially not on sites like ours.
