By Andrew Restuccia
Gasoline prices, which have vexed President Obama politically in recent months, may have reached their peak, according to energy analysts.
Prices at the pump reached nearly $3.94 last Friday, the highest point this year, according to AAA. But prices have decreased slightly over the last five days, reversing increases that began in December of last year.
Analysts say prices could continue to decline.

Ben Brockwell, director of data and pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said gasoline prices have decreased more in the last five days than any time during the past year.
Based on the average increase during the first three months of the year, gasoline prices should have hit a national average of $4 a gallon on Tuesday, according to Brockwells early projections.

(6,960 posts)Getting gasoline prices down is good for the economy and his reelection.
Continuing the saber rattling and sanctions against Iran is bad for gasoline prices and -- arguably -- makes him look tough.

(24,436 posts)I thought for awhile we were careening towards some kind of massive confrontation with them. Not that I miss it but I've just noticed that it has been pretty quiet since around the time that President Obama spoke at that Israeli group convention sometime last month? Maybe it's because the GOP Primary debates are over and Romney effectively has the nomination now?

(24,692 posts)My guess is you can find "analysts" who predict anything (go higher or lower, get better or worse, etc.) if you look for them.
It would be important to note the track record of quoted analysts or the quality of their rationale for their prediction, not just whether they are predicting "gloom and doom" or "happy days are here again".
