Not The Onion: Survivor type show features U.S. Senators Flake and Heinrich on desert Island

Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona last month returned to a favorite vacation getaway -- the remote Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

But this time Flake, a Republican, was joined by his colleague Sen. Martin Heinrich, D-N.M. And a television crew from the Discovery Channel to document the survivalist adventure.

Flake and Heinrich were filmed roughing it Robinson Crusoe-style for six days and six nights for an Oct. 29 Discovery event dramatically titled "Rival Survival."

The bipartisan duo, who had to live on limited resources, were "surrounded by shark-infested waters that mirror the seemingly treacherous terrain of the U.S. Congress," the Discovery Channel's news release breathlessly announces.

"Polar opposites and often at odds in the Senate, these two men must come together to take on the island of Eru, Marshall Islands, an utterly unforgiving deserted destination where the reefs alone are fraught with dangers that include venomous stonefish, lionfish and scorpion fish," the release adds.

that 2 senators--ANY 2--would put themselves in physical peril?

People watch Duck Dynasty and those dreadful Housewife shows, so I guess they will believe this shit.

I have seen people airlifted to the hospital from there and getting infections that linger on long after the show. ha ha .
They do have crew around to save them should they get in trouble, but they are just not quick enough to stop them from drinking bad water.

It is pretty entertaining, they start with a knife and a bucket or fire starter and have to make everything and hunt for food for the next 3 weeks. I think that is when they would be dead if they did not eat at all. And the entire show is covered in one hour. But it is one man and one woman. They rarely follow the customs of today ha ha . No men and woman roles - who ever finds food and water, it is a good thing. no hunter gatherer and cook. Last show the man left after 4 days (that bad water drinking thing - he who holds out for clean water lasts longest) and the woman had to do the next 17 days alone, although she did not do much except conserve energy.

A New Jersey woman died earlier this week trying to catch a few hours of sleep between jobs, a chilling reminder of the struggle low-wage workers, particularly women, face making ends meet.

Police found Maria Fernandes dead in her car on Monday night, parked in a convenience-store parking lot in Elizabeth, N.J., according to a police press release. Fernandes, 32, was wearing a Dunkin’ Donuts uniform when she was found. A friend and fellow employees told officials she worked as many as four jobs, said Lt. Daniel Saulnier, a spokesman for the Elizabeth police department.
