This may sound cheesy

but this is a rough day for me.

New York City is my spiritual home. It's where I first chose to live and it's where I learned much about love & life.

My aunt, uncle & niece were in downtown Manhattan on September 11, 2001.

We could not reach them until the next day. They lost six close friends. My niece's best friend lost both her parents. They are still best friends. They all still live downtown.

To anyone else who has these very real memories. You are not alone.

I offer you my prayers, love and virtual hugs.

It was late in day when he was able to make contact with him so it was a rather trying time for us too as all of us on the crew had worked with Eli since he was big enough to pick up a concrete comalong and drag mud. He was like a little brother to us.

and it's a daily struggle. One of the wonderful things about reading and posting here at DU is that I see compassion here every time I check in. People who try and walk a mile in others' shoes. Thanks madokie.

I was in Lower Manhattan that morning, and I lost friends as well.

I've seen some snark about commemoration here. I get that it can be syrupy, and that our memories and attachments have been used by forces up to no good, but that doesn't make our memories and attachments and feelings any less real. It's sad that some people can't make that distinction.
