(5,790 posts)Having said that, after the William Pitt thread about Senator Sanders, this seemed like a fair question.

(50,254 posts)Basically, all she ever did as SoS was to try to get us into more wars.
She still doesn't get it that war only benefits men and brings nothing but misery to women and children...and that war can
never again have any progressive or positive effects in this world.

(5,790 posts)I disagree, but I understand.
I flat-out don't think Sanders is electable. I think he might be nominatable, but I see Sanders vs. any Republican as being a massive red-baiting exercise in which the Democrats get slaughtered. OTOH, one can never predict what any Republican will do these days to shoot him/herself in the foot. I have trust issues with Elizabeth Warren, given her admitted Republican past, and her ducking interview requests with Indian Country Today Media Network, and she has a breathtaking lack of foreign policy experience. Again -- she might be nominatable, but don't see too much hope for her in the GE.
I self-label as a Democrat, as opposed to self-labeling as a Progressive. I saw Bill Clinton as a flawed President, but light years ahead of Bush & Reagan. Clinton and Obama both have failed to meet expectations largely because they both got saddled with hostile congresses. I see Hillary Clinton as a practical choice who can appeal to moderates, and keep the country away from the Tea Party abyss. What I don't want to see is President Walker or President Cruz naming the replacements for Scalia, Bader-Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kennedy.

(20,176 posts)I have a passport. I have marketable skills and substantial fiscal resources...I'd go expat.
There's no point staying here while either the Clinton or a Republican run America into the ground. Perhaps if it survives and is repaired, I'll return.

(29,047 posts)so I don't think very much about my POTUS vote. I definitely have preferences, but withholding a vote from HRC wouldn't be noticed by anyone.

(1,352 posts)Actually, living in a very red zone of a very blue state, none of my votes count very much.
I still go vote, every damn time, but I am painfully aware that it doesn't really affect anything.

In the General, would depend on how close it was in PA.

(50,254 posts)The OP knows perfectly well that Bernie can be trusted not to run a third-party campaign in the fall.
Algernon Moncrieff
(5,790 posts)The poll question was not "What will Bernie Sanders do?"
Neo-McCarthyist? That's way OTT.
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)We're not in fall 2016, when only people who back the ticket will be allowed to express themselves.
I don't think it's a legitimate thing to do a poll that sounds like a "loyalty test" at this stage.
Algernon Moncrieff
(5,790 posts)It's been fair for William Pitt to tell Democrats to pucker up because they had the audacity to point out that - gasp - Bernie Sanders is not a Democrat (when - in fact - he is not a registered Democrat)?
Plenty of people have openly posted on this site that nothing will induce them to vote for Hillary Clinton, so the idea that this is some kind of McCarthyist loyalty test is a farce.
I'll give Sanders supporters credit for at least supporting someone who has indicated that he has some interest in running. Warren has said I-don't-know-how-many-dozen times she won't run, while people here keep insisting she will. Meanwhile, the LA Times says Sanders is http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-bernie-sanders-president-independent-hillary-clinton-ralph-nader-20140915-story.html&rct=j&frm=1&q=&esrc=s&sa=U&ei=QcgYVMCMDcypyATA_IBI&ved=0CB8Q-AsoADAB&usg=AFQjCNHCLg-W2Yhzxoi5nLBalrfh6TViBg" target="_blank">positioning himself to be the next Ralph Nader
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)Therefore, it doesn't MATTER that, at this moment, he isn't a registered Dem.
It's not like our party has any right to be angry with him for representing Vermont as an "I". If he's in our caucus in the Senate, his party status is irrelevant. Democrats have no reason to hold a grudge against Bernie.
We already know he wouldn't run third-party in the fall, so why care that he's an "I" right now?
BTW...there was no good reason to include that last option in the poll. Nobody would even think that, and you know it.

(30,439 posts)I dunno, it seemed pretty straightforward and simple to me,
Ken Burch
(50,254 posts)We can't win in 2016 by demonizing people for thinking of voting third-party the fall...we can ONLY win be making sure OUR party is progressive enough to stop them doing that.
There's really nothing most of those contemplating voting third-party are asking for that a Democratic nominee COULDN'T endorse her or himself, when you get right down to it. We don't have to be seen as telling the left to go Cheney itself in order to get majority support.
The path to victory is inclusion, not browbeating.

(8,434 posts)Hillary will not either. I will not vote for any person that is a republican.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)and do not feel that Hillary will adequately address what I consider the key issue of our time, my vote will go to whichever candidate I find available who I feel will address such. I don't think I'll have any trouble finding someone on the left end of the spectrum who will better address it than HRC.
Given that my party generally has few candidates on the ballot, chances are high that most of the rest of the people on the ballot I end up voting for will be Democrats.

(50,254 posts)Ron Paul is hardly the answer, since his anti-interventionism would go out the door the moment he was sworn in as a Republican president. They'd MAKE him be Dubya The Second.

(21,806 posts)Like most of us here, I'd rather have a progressive Democrat be on the Democratic ticket in the general election.
But if that doesn't happen, I ain't staying home to piss and moan.
Because AFAIC, when it comes right down to it, the worst Democrat is still 1000 times better than the best Republican.
Number23
(24,544 posts)and don't know much about Warren but like what I've heard on the occasion that she seems to say anything.
But I am laughing my ass off at the folks hanging the New Messiah cape on either one of them. Because if there is one thing we have all learned PAINFULLY from this crew, the second and I mean the millisecond that they actually have to govern or say anything to try to broaden their level of support -- which is the ONLY WAY TO WIN A NATIONAL OFFICE -- which will likely result in saying something that this same crew screaming their names now doesn't like, these same people will turn on them like a pack of frothing wilderbeast and will spend the remainder of their terms wailing about what a corpo-fascist mini dictator they are.
I saw the big thread on on the home page and just shook my head. Feels like Dennis Freaking Kucinich circa 2008 all over again.

(8,592 posts)an important election in less than 2 months, I'll pass. Two years is a long time; we don't know who will choose to run in the primaries for either the Democratic Party or the GOP, hell we don't even know who will have the majority in the Senate in December of this year. We don't know what world events will occur and be occurring between now and then. There are entirely too many variables to consider. I have preferences...I'd prefer someone other than Hillary, I don't dislike her, I just don't want her as our candidate. I have deep respect for Bernie and a strong liking for Elizabeth Warren. There are a number of other people I'd like to see run. I am a liberal who thinks we have to go left and I believe much of the country is ready for it, with the right candidate advocating the policies that liberals stand for. But right now this whole subject is nothing more than a shiny object to distract people from what is happening now and in just under two months...
