US will have ‘many more’ 9/11s if it fails to act against Islamic State – House Rep

If the US fails to attack Islamic State (IS) militants in Iraq and Syria, the country could face the prospect of “many” terrorist attacks similar to September 11, a top-ranking Democrat says. It comes as the House debates arming Syrian rebels to fight IS.

...

“I understand that my colleagues are war weary. I’m war weary. I understand the American people are war weary,” Engel said, as quoted by The Hill. “But I think doing nothing would invite something very similar that happened to my city, New York City, on that fateful day of Sept. 11, 2001.”

“If we do nothing, ISIS (IS) will plot and plan and we’ll have many more 9/11s in the United States, in Europe, in the Middle East,” he claimed.

The House is currently debating whether or not to pass an amendment that would allow President Obama to direct the military to arm and train rebel factions in Syria in order to fight the Islamic State.

Supposedly arming and training the Iraqis to fight for their own country and presumably against our enemies?Turned out to be a total waste of lives, money and effort.
Is it Americas job to go over to this part of the world and play nurse maid to a bunch of countries who havent the cojones to fight for their own country and as an added insult countries that dont like America but will gladly take our money and military resources.
If we did succeed in wiping out ISIS there would just be another radical faction to replace them.
I say leave em to their own destiny, we'll deal with whatever is left over..

Looks like the Neocons and their sympathizers have finally figured out how to shake us Americans out of our collective "war weariness"

This or something like it has the potential to wipe out a majority of the worlds population.
Under the right circumstances it could make for a very potent weapon.

Meanwhile, when has arming and training "moderates" ever worked out well?

The jihadi group surging through Iraq and Syria is using large captured US-made weapons and has access to anti-tank rockets supplied by Saudi Arabia to a moderate rebel group, according to a report published on Monday.

The study by the London-based Conflict Armament Research consultancy found that Islamic State (Isis) militants had access to large numbers of US weapons, which they were shifting to key battlefields.
...
Of most interest was the capture of two M-79 rockets that were identical to a batch of such weapons supplied by Saudi Arabia to rebels in southern Syria in January 2013. The rockets had been sourced from a Croatian arms supplier and ferried to anti-Assad fighters who were identified as non-jihadis.

The potential for weapons provided to one group to fall into the hands of other militants fighting in Syria has often been cited by the US and others as a reason not to heavily arm groups involved in the civil war.

IS poses no real threat to the United States at this time. IS does pose a threat to some of our allies, however, but that's a different issue.
