Science Says That Drinking Wine Is Better Than Going To The Gym

MTL Blog:

How often have you not gone to the gym, only because you need time to go to the SAQ before it closes? Or, likely more often, how many times have you ditched any gym plans because you drank too much the night before? Let’s call it a lot and not think about the actual number. But there is hope!

A new piece of info will make you feel a lot less bad about missing the gym for/because of drinking, and maybe inspire future gym-flops, as wine has been found to be as good for you as hitting the gym. For real, well, almost.

Researchers at the University of Alberta analyzed the effects of resveratrol (found in red wine) on the body, and found that it can improve a person’s heart, muscle, and bones in the same way as a session at the gym. Head research Jason Dyck elaborated, saying “resveratrol showed results similar to what you would see from extensive endurance exercise training.”

Human testing on the the body’s benefit of consuming resveratrol is set to begin, and will officially prove whether wine is just as good for you as working out. The initial study was done on rats, with positive results, so if that’s enough for you to go on, feel free to head to the dep, grab a bottle, and dump your gym back at home, knowing you can tell your gym buddy it could be just as good for you.

I'm generally not attracted to wine much more than I am beer. The taste generally just doesn't float my boat.

So is it something in the grapes, or does it only show up after the fermentation process?
