Russian courts could get the green light to seize foreign assets on Russian territory under a draft law intended as a response to Western sanctions over the Ukraine crisis.
The draft, which was submitted to parliament on Wednesday by a pro-Kremlin deputy, would also allow state compensation for an individual whose property is seized in foreign jurisdictions.
Italian authorities this week seized property worth about 30 million euros ($40 million) belonging to companies controlled by Arkady Rotenberg, an ally of President Vladimir Putin targeted by the U.S. and European Union sanctions.
The draft law, published on a parliamentary database, would allow for compensation for Russian citizens who suffer because of an "unlawful court act" in a foreign jurisdiction and clear the way to foreign state assets in Russia being seized, even if they are subject to international immunity.

(34,661 posts)What a joke! Puttie's Russia is so dependent on the Euro Zone and Western Banks,he is so screwed. Bosis the Drunk made sure most Russian assets were sold to or controlled by outsiders. The only big item Russia has is Oil and with a glut on the market,your so screwed. They do have the worlds largest operational Lithium mine,but not for long. New Lithium rare earth mine near Nevada California state line,projected to be the largest when put in full operation. Russian currency is about equal to toilet paper which might by of greater value. It's all about oil and Empire and as of this point,Obama 1 Puttie 0 and his team is short handed and the penalty box is full up. Notice all the cancellation of drilling contracts by Chevron and Exon-Mobile in last couple days. BTW,the Rockefeller's just dumped their petrol holdings and are buying Wind Farms and Solar. You got to read the news and not the sport pages.
