Woman arrested for allegedly seeking fake $94 million tax refund
COBB COUNTY, Ga.
State investigators have arrested a woman accused of seeking a tax refund of more than $94 million.
Now investigators say they are looking for the woman's relative, whom they say also filed a fake tax return.
Channel 2 Action News was at a Cobb County supermarket as Brigitte Jackson was arrested at the bank counter inside the store.
It doesnt matter if its $94 or $94 million. Were going to go after you and hold you accountable, said Georgia Department of Revenue Special Investigations Chief Josh Waites.
Investigators said Jackson tried to trick the state into paying her the fake $94 million tax refund. But investigators said they stayed one step ahead.
Waites said investigators asked Jackson to come to the supermarket to pick up her $94 million refund check. Thats when she was arrested.
She is facing five charges, including attempted theft by taking and conspiracy to defraud the state.

(36,063 posts)Dang!! I'd have sworn just a few weeks ago, bank execs and wall streeters were all proven to be anti-social because they were competent enough to bilk billions out of common people's retirement accounts.
It moves rapidly through Atlanta and way too many get wrongly affected by it.

(79,302 posts)and the host was taking questions from the audience.
Most said she should go to jail.
However, the host (Derrick Boazman) had the opinion that she needed to be screened for a mental disorder.
Makes sense to me.

(7,300 posts)While I think she should be prosecuted for her fraud I can't help but thinking that if she already had millions of dollars this statement , It doesnt matter if its $94 or $94 million. Were going to go after you and hold you accountable, would not have been made or at the least amended with a qualifier such as "usually", "most of the time" or "under other circumstances".

(2,101 posts)A cry for help saying 'please help me' to friends, relatives, strangers, or even a social service program may have led nowhere. Could be that going through the system, providing documentation, meeting various requirements, etc was viewed as an unnecessary or unattainable challenge. She did it the easy way.
