I believe I have a better idea how the absence of net neutrality would be.

My online services have failed for a week. Verizon confirmed that my modem died. They sent a new one.

I installed it and online services were slower than dial-up. I'm talking about counting 10, 20, 30, 40, 60 seconds.

I called back and told Verizon to fix it. While the tech guy was pretty terrific, all he could ultimately offer me was this:

1 ) My DSL was slow and could be upgraded.
2) Pay more money for the same thing I had last week.
3) Pay more money for faster speed DSL or go FIOS

While on the phone with the tech guy, I lost online services altogether.

I'm already stressed out for more than a week without internet. Plus, I need it for my business as well as hanging with you guys.

Two things:

1) If we lose net neutrality, all of us will have long waiting times for sites like this to download, even between posts. It is NOT good.
2) Verizon is practicing a form of extortion. I had no choice but to buy another modem from them (presuming I want to continue with them) and that's not enough money. Now my online "privileges" are being held hostage unless I get another service that I didn't need last week.

I'm going to the highest supervisor and complain about this unethical position and I'm going to the state's consumer affairs.

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

We're all going to have to fight this battle at some point, methinks.

In 2012 my Internet would no longer work. I complained to my ISP and they couldn't get it work. So I switched internet provders and it turned out they had to upgrade the telecommunication lines and cable lines.

Corporations no longer have to answer to consumers.

If enough of us raised enough hell maybe something would get done.

I held firm.

Verizon sent a very sympathetic, friendly, and competent tech to the house. He examined the wires in my unit, on the lines, and in the basement.

He installed new filters on my phone lines.

Result: Back to normal. DSL working. Can shift to new windows fast again.

Same price. No charge for service call.

AND the tech gave me his number if I need him to return.

When Verizon had its robo-call to rate my tech, he got "5"s all around (excellent).

BTW, the tech was familiar with the home office trying to persuade customers to "upgrade".

I'm not in love with going to Fios BTW. First, more expensive. Second, not as reliable as copper wire. Two years ago, my father lost his internet and phone b/c he had Fios. My copper wire phone allowed me to receive and make calls.

Thanks for all your support.
