A day after announcing an effort to cash in on the Trayvon Martin killing, San Francisco businessman Lawrence Sekara has apparently changed his mind about selling I Believe You Zimmerman merchandise.
After applying to the U.S. Patent office to trademark the phrase for possible marketing of Zimmerman tee shirts, mugs and magnets the 49-year-old businessman has now told The Smoking Gun that he now believes the idea of making money on the killing of the 17-year-old Florida teen is disgusting and insists he was simply trying to make a political point.
From TSG:
In todays e-mail, Sekara offered a dim view of cashing in on the criminal case. With regards to the idea of making money off this, I agree that it is disgusting, he wrote. Sekara added that the point he wanted to make was that everyone has the right to trial by jury. Everyone tried and convicted the accused and put a bounty on his head. Thats not the way its supposed to be in this country.
Sekara.. closed with a reference to President Barack Obamas reelection committee selling hooded sweatshirts, which he apparently considers an attempt to cash in on the killing of Martin. Look to the President of the United States making money selling hoodies. A double standard dont you think?

TSG also notes at press time, Sekaras Zimmerman trademark application has yet to be formally withdrawn, according to online USPTO records.

But Trayvon also has a right to have his case brought to trial fairly. And if (small if) Zimmerman is guilty prosecuted and convicted.
