Patient Hospitalized in D.C. With Possible Ebola Symptoms

October 3, 2014 11:42 AM

WASHINGTON (WNEW) — A patient has been hospitalized in D.C. with possible Ebola symptoms.

The patient, who traveled to the U.S. from Nigeria, has been hospitalized at Howard University Hospital in Washington, according to WNEW Senior Correspondent Mark Segraves.

“We can confirm that a patient has been admitted to Howard University Hospital in stable condition, following travel to Nigeria and presenting with symptoms that could be associated with Ebola,” hospital spokesperson Kerry-Ann Hamilton said in a statement Friday.

“In an abundance of caution, we have activated the appropriate infection control protocols, including isolating the patient. Our medical team continues to evaluate and monitor progress in close collaboration with the CDC and the Department of Health.

This person will most likely not be infected with Ebola.

Nigeria had a single case get in country and ended up with 20 infected, 8 dead. It's been under control ever since. The likelihood that this person has Ebola is very remote.

If he originated from another country with cases of Ebola, he could not have traveled to Nigeria via the ground due to closed borders etc.:

The hospital had no other choice but to take these precautions, but the likelihood of Ebola infection is remote here.

Check post 14, no way he traveled on the ground from Liberia to Nigeria.

They were in New York, Sacramento, Miami and Charlottesville. There may be more, those are just the ones I know of without looking it up.

It's comforting to see another case where the hospital had the proper procedures in place to deal with a possible risk group 4 Pathogen, though.

I have family living in a far northern State. They honestly believe the EBOLA thing is fake.
Yes fake.
Ignorance is bliss, I guess. Nothing exists outside the 30 mile radius where they live.
That's the truth.
Its difficult to have a conversation with them anymore.
