Not to keep harping on Pink Slime

However, I am watching Kerry Picket on Hayes talking about "Pink Slime"I am watching this stupid stupid woman is extolling the virtues of "pink slime" and how it has "always been there". She is expressing how now "precious" (said sarcastically) music and gym programs will have to be cut since schools will not use this product any longer. My grandfather was from Italia, a master sausage maker and butcher. He had a small feed lot and a killed his one beef and pigs on Tuesdays. "Pink slime" has never ever part of the ground beef making process. The hogs got the offal and scraps that he would not use for ground meat, he did not put it in a vat, spray it with lysol and toss it in the grinder.

This pink slime has nothing to do with meat production or even good agricultural practices. This is a by product of the huge large-scale agri-business. Our meat is NOT cheaper today than it was 30 years ago, it is NOT of better quality. Modern feed lots are disgusting. Modern sludge lagoons on hog operations are so hot with nitrates you cannot even use the water for fertilizer.

It is big business screwing the little man, selling him shit and calling it food. Go take a tour of an actual family farm, then go see a modern Monsato hog operation and tell me which pig you want to eat.

I KNOW better. I watched sides of beef prepared for the table for years. Pink Slime is a corporate load of horse shit that has no bearing on anything other than profit. Someone takes this lady for a ride in the country please.

1. I buy my ground beef at a local market where they grind it themselves daily.

It costs maybe 15% more than the big grocery meat and tastes indescribably better.
They also make their sausage daily with no nitrites or preservatives in it.

It's called salt, and lots of it. It is the main spice in all sausage recipes.

The one with all the names that are hard to pronounce.
Plain old salt I have no problem with-after all the human body needs and utilizes it.
It's the BHT, nitrites and other crap we can do without.

There are several small family operations nearby who have only a small number of animals raised in open pastures. You can stop at many of them and purchase the beef, turkey, pork, whatever, directly from the farmer. Sure, it's more expensive, and your selection is limited to what the farmer has on hand, no asking the butcher to dig around in the back room looking for that special cut you want. But the flavor is always better, and the peace of mind is worth every penny or slight inconvenience.

6. The problem is that big agriculture wiped out the small guy.

A guy cannot raise two hundred head of sow and make a living today, like they could in the past. It hurts the wildlife too because the agri farmers take down tree belts, and farm right up to the road side. Modern large scale operations for agriculture are not making this country a better place to eat or enjoy the great outdoors.

If you mess with our profits we will take something from your children!
You have to wonder if they ever hear themselves.

9. Where would you like to raise the meat to feed a city of 10M?

How do you feed meat to a collection of humans of the size of, say, New York City, and what would you like to do with the excrement produced by all of those animals?

I do not even know where to begin. Have you ever actually been out west? To the Great Plains, places where they actually raise beef? I don't mean flying into DIA, I mean going on a nice long horseback ride in Lamar Colorado.
