The War on Rosh Hashanah

http://www.post-gazette.com/opinion/2014/10/02/The-War-onRosh-Hashanah/stories/201410020234

For yet another year the lamestream media have failed to cover an attack on religion in America. I’m referring, of course, to the War on Rosh Hashanah.

Can you believe there are merchants all over the country who didn’t have a single “L’shana Tovah!” sign up last week? And I guarantee that for the entire High Holidays, almost every clerk will tell me to “have a nice day” and not wish me to be inscribed in the Book of Life for the new year. It’s the reason for the season!

You might say that it should be up to every merchant to decide what kinds of greetings best fit the store’s customer base. You might also be a secular humanist who hates America....

If this were still a civilized country with proper respect for faith, every school day between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur would start with the blowing of a shofar. That would wake kids up more than any moment of silence, I can tell you. A ram’s horn blast is like sitting next to a truck horn. And don’t bother me with complaints that it would confuse or intimidate students whose families follow other religions.
