Obama Speaks on Ebola: ‘Unlikely’ to Spread in U.S.

President Obama gave brief comments to the press today on concerns over a potential Ebola outbreak in the United States. And the president wanted to reassure everyone that such an outbreak is “unlikely” to happen.

Obama said the U.S. is taking steps to fight an outbreak, which he touted as a “reminder of American leadership” in the world. Other countries, of course, need to step up as well to help stop outbreaks.

The president said, “The nature of this disease––the good news is that it’s not an airborne disease. We are familiar with the protocols we need to isolate and greatly reduce the risks of people catching this disease.”

That being said, Obama expressed confidence that the chances of an outbreak in the U.S. are “extraordinarily low.”
