Colorado Governor may have lost re-election with his comments about "reckless" legalization...

....of marijuana?

<snip>
Hickenlooper faces a tight race for re-election in November. It's not clear why he would bash a marijuana law approved by a strong majority of voters. The rollout of the law appears to be "succeeding" and most voters continue to support it, even though state regulation of marijuana sales isn't perfect.

"Politically, it’s a pretty reckless statement," Mason Tvert, a key backer of legalization, told The Huffington Post. "Gov. Hickenlooper was elected by 51 percent of the state’s voters, whereas 55 percent approved the marijuana initiative in 2012. Some of them might now be thinking they made a pretty reckless decision when they voted him into office."

Tvert added that he finds it odd that Hickenlooper, who was a beer brewer before becoming governor and made his fortune selling alcoholic beverages, would oppose legalization of a substance historically controlled by criminals and cartels.

Marijuana legalization passed 55 percent to 45 percent in Colorado in 2012, and made headlines for being more popular than President Barack Obama with voters.

Beisdes how cool it is to finally just go to the store for it, it was actually no big deal. You would never know it was legal.

a third of the voters here are registered unaffiliated, but the governorship has been held by a dem for 32 of the last 40 years. but that was still a pretty stupid ass thing to say

as to labeling and how many dosages they could contain. Was causing a problem that was ultimately blamed on hurried rollout. The Gov was getting some flack about that and it seems that now, for political reasons, he's calling the rollout reckless.

WA State came on line 6 months after CO and after the edibles problem was identified and they seem to have learned from CO.

The military and religious are not going to vote for him...I have family that live near Colorado springs. They are not for pot law, but they are also not for him...so he isn't doing himself any favors.

I also dropped about $40 in tax revenue, obeyed the law, enjoyed the shops and my friends. I would say that my vacation was the opposite of reckless. The most reckless thing I did, in fact, was buy everyone dessert a few too many times.
